SCHOLARLY ARTICLE AND REFLECTIVE JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT !

This assignment will help you continue the process of researching the general conversation surrounding your topic as you search for relevant articles from scholarly sources
in your field. For this assignment, choose what appears to be the most promising article
one that relates to your project most explicitly and one you will most likely use in your
final project. Your article will ideally be one published within the last two years. Write up
a double-entry journal on that article:!

1. Divide the pages of your research notebook into two columns.!

2. On the left side of the page, compile your notes from the article (i.e. paraphrases of
important ideas, summaries, direct quotes, etc.).!

3. On the right side of the page, comment on those notes: What strikes you are interesting? Unusual? Surprising? Bogus? Confusing? !

4. Consider how this articles information relates with your own ideas about the topic at
hand: Does it support or refute what you know? Do you agree with it? What purpose
might this article serve? What further questions does the information in this article
raise that might be worth investigating? How does it connect with other sources you
have read or come across? !

5. After your finish your double-entry journal, write a brief (1 page) response that reflects upon your impressions of academic writing about your topic, using this article
as a primary example. Feel free to use the questions listed above under #4 to help
you get started in this reflection. You should also reflect on whether and how this
exercise was useful for your research process
