Salt Lake City

Utah(Beehive State)
What Mecca is to the Muslems and Rome is to the Catholics, is what Salt Lake City is
to the Mormons. It is the capital of the U.S. state of Utah.
Four mighty walls surround the 4 hectare area in the middle of the old town, the centre
of the Mormon Church, Temple Square
The city is located in the northeast corner of the Salt Lake Valley surrounded by the
Great Salt Lake to the northwest and the steep Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges
on the eastern and southwestern borders, respectively.
Great Salt Lake is ideal for people who don't like swimming. You can "sit" or "lie"
in the water. When you come out of the water (where no animal can live) the salt
burns on your skin, so you need more than one shower to get clean (up to 27% of
salt). And the smell around the lake is not very nice. But it's great fun.
This is an oddly specific stereotype- SLC is the No1 consumer of Jell-O.
Locals attribute their high Jell-O consumption to the large population of teetotaling
Mormons and their compensating love of sweets. (Utahans are also champion
consumers of ice cream, candy bars and marshmallows--including the miniature ones
used in Jell-O molds).
The most coveted souvenirs from the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics were
represented by a bowl of green Jell-O.
Salt Lake is proudly the birthplace of the first Kentucky Fried Chicken in
America. The original location still stands today at 3890 S State Street.
The city consistently ranks in the Forbes top five list for Best Cities for Jobs and
Americas Best Cities for Young Professionals.
The 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics were considered one of the most successful
Winter Olympiads in history, with records set in broadcasting and financing of the
games.

Salt Lake City was the first city in the country to have a Green Shared Lane for
cyclists and is promoting biking with its new bike share program in the downtown
area.
Salt Lake City ranks No. 1 as Best U.S. Hiking City in America, according to
National Geographic.
There are fourteen ski mountains to choose from in the Salt Lake City area, home of
the greatest snow on earth.
Anasazi Indians are the first known inhabitants of the Salt Lake City area, followed
by the Ute tribe, which gives Utah its name.
The city is known as the Crossroads of the West because of its central location in the
western United States.
