Yesterday we studied five facets of the salvation work of

our Good Shepherd. Consider taking some time today to
thank the Lord for how He has specifically worked these
things out in your life.

When Solomon dedicated the temple, he prayed for the

spiritual well-being of the nation. Among many things, one of
the things he prayed was that God would incline our hearts
to him, to walk in his ways and to keep his commandments
This is a good thing for each ofus to pray. That God would
incline our hearts toward him so we will walk in his ways. All
of our actions (our walk) begin with our hearts. We act out of
that to which we are inclined. Sadly, the natural inclination of
the human heart is not toward God. It is toward self. Scripture
reminds us thatthe hearts of the children of man are full of
evil (Ecc 9:3) and that the heart is deceitful above all things
(Jer 17:9).Therefore, we should pray that God would override
the natural sinful inclination of our hearts and bend our hearts
toward him. When we are saved, he does just that, andhas
shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the
glory of God (2 For 6:4) and wehavebecome obedient
from the heart (Rom 6:17). As believers, we can continue to
pray that God wouldincline our hearts to him, to walk in his
ways and to keep his commandments (1 Kings 8:58)

Thursday

Bible Reading: John 13:18-30; Jude 8-16; Job 21:22-34; Daniel 9

Bible Reading: John 14:1-14; 1 Rev. 1:1-8; Job 23; Hosea 1-3

God is the highest good of the reasonable creature. The

enjoyment of him is our proper; and is the only happiness
with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to
enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Better than fathers and mothers, husbands,
wives, or children, or the company of any, or all earthly friends.
These are but shadows; but the enjoyment of God is the substance. These are but scattered beams; but God is the sun.
These are but streams; but God is the fountain. These are but
drops, but God is the ocean. Jonathan Edwards

Psalm 1 is a well-known passage of Scripture, but dont let

its familiarity create in you a sense that there is nothing
you can learn from it. Never believe the lie that, just because youve heard it before, you dont need to hear again
what God has spoken. In every passage of Scripture, there
is a God-breathed depth of wisdom and breadth of knowledge that should be teaching you for the rest of your life.
Blessed is the man who, even after he has read this passage again and again, even after he has heard numerous
sermons preached from its verses, continues to delight in
the law of the Lord and meditate on its inspired precious
words. He is like a tree, planted by streams of water.
Take the time to sit and read Psalm 1 today, and pray that
God would bring fresh application from ancient texts.
Pray that God would give vibrant passion from often-read
passages as you meditate on the counsel of the Lord and
consider your life.

Take time today and every day, to pray and praise the Lord,
for He is our greatest good.
