Re: Study Plan for R.C.1 Course
This week, we gathered to discuss how we going to
manage the RC1 course. So we decided to define our
mission and the major tasks, also develop a project
calendar. We define our mission, objectives, and major
tasks and developed a project calendar to fulfill the
course outcomes.
Reinforced concrete structures course includes the
examination of ultimate strength and limit
state design methods; stress-strain relationships for
concrete and steel; ACI requirements;
flexural analysis and design of beams; singly reinforced
rectangular beams, doubly reinforced
rectangular beams, and T-beams; analysis and design of
compression members, tied and spiral
columns; shear and diagonal tension, bond, anchorage
and development length; and analysis and
design of one-way solid and ribbed slabs.
Course Mission:
Our Mission: The objective of this course mission is be
able to design and analyze structural members such as
Slabs, Columns, Beams and how to reinforce these
members
Secondary objective:
Gain more experience and understanding of the
course.

Learn how to use design softwares such as ETABs.

identify and apply the applicable industry design
codes relevant to the design of reinforced concrete
members.
Become familiar with professional and ethical issues
and the importance of lifelong learning in structural
engineering.
Project Plan:
To achieve our mission and meet the above objective. We
develop the following five-action plans:
Action one: To review the perquisite of the course and the
important information that R.C.1 course based on
R.C.1 course based on basics concepts which is mostly
principles of force vectors and resultant, free-body
diagrams of forces and equilibrium of particles using
concepts of rigid bodies, moment of a force about a point
and about an axis, equilibrium of rigid bodies, shear
forces diagrams, bending moment diagrams, center of
area, and moment of inertia of an area. Also its
important to define the behavior of material under
stresses and how it deforms we. So we should understand
the basic to overcome the hard part of the course.
Action Two: have the correct references to study from
We plan to get document contains information of the
material and more importantly what references we need
to study to prepare for this course also having the ACI
code is important for having the summarized equations
and steps for design and analyze structural members.

Action Three: Engage more in the field work

Having direct experiential contact with the construction
material and Engaging in the fieldwork increase
knowledge, skills and subject understanding. Also to
become familiar with the structural element that we
design, and helping in visualize while designing.
