Visitors to Hampton safari park has been warned not
entering the monkey enclosure if they have roof cases on their
cars as the monkeys are likely to open it and steal the contents.
The animals appear to have worked out a way of unlocking the
cases with jumping on them; they even seem to be working
together in group to do it.
One family said they know they couldnt get out of the car
and so could only watch in horror while the monkeys ran away with
every their holiday clothes and disappeared up trees with
everything from bikinis to shoes. One young monkey was seeing
holding onto a childs teddy bear.
Keepers at a safari park said the monkeys had broken into
more than ten roof cases at the beginning of the summer holidays.
As a result they have now set up an alternative route for cars with
luggage on the roof because they can avoid the thieving monkeys.
