IBM DeepFlash for Elastic Storage Server.
TM
Overview
IBM ESS DeepFlash Storage enables big data storage to expand scale-out
deployments with higher density, performance, and a lower cost per terabyte. When
combined with IBM Spectrum Scale and IBM Power Servers, this solution delivers
superior data protection with rebuild times reduced to a fraction of the time needed
with previous systems.
ESS DeepFlash Storage 3U64 supports 64 separate 8 TB flash modules in a single
enclosure. The current supported configuration is 256 TB (thirty-two 8 TB modules).
IBM DeepFlash for ESS can be deployed with one or more ESS DeepFlash Storage
enclosures.
Each ESS DeepFlash Storage enclosure includes:
Eight separate 12 Gbps SAS ports for control and host server interface
3U, 19-inch rack-mount enclosure with two AC power supplies (110 to 240 V)
Key prerequisites

Description
With the growth of mobile, social, and big data, the quantity and variety of data
has skyrocketed. ESS DeepFlash Storage has been designed around an increasingly
mobile workforce and the data storage requirements of big data and analytics.
ESS DeepFlash is designed for hyperscale and cloud workloads that are also
evolving and demanding scalability, extremely high levels of availability, and agility
in how IT resources are allocated and used. New performance levels bring the
advantages of ESS DeepFlash Storage to a wider variety of applications, including
high-performance computing workloads.
Data delivers value only when insights can be extracted and maximum value
requires rapid time to insight. ESS DeepFlash Storage reduces the processing time
for big data from weeks to hours. Compared to older technologies, this all-flash
solution avoids complexity and scales to optimally extract value from the largest
cloud and hyperscale environments. Rack-scale consolidation of storage enables
total cost of ownership (TCO) benefits through IT consolidation and independent
growth tailored to application requirements.

The dimensions shown above are for the chassis minus the bezel. The chassis depth
is measured from the back of the mounting ear, so the addition of the bezel does not
affect the depth measurement.

On-site Service
At IBM's discretion, you will receive specified CRU service, or IBM will repair the
failing machine at your location and verify its operation. You must provide a suitable
working area to allow disassembly and reassembly of the IBM machine. The area
must be clean, well-lit, and suitable for the purpose.
Service level is:
Warranty service
IBM is now shipping machines with selected non-IBM parts that contain an IBM field
replaceable unit (FRU) part number label. These parts are to be serviced during the
IBM machine warranty period. IBM is covering the service on these selected nonIBM parts as an accommodation to their customers, and normal warranty service
procedures for the IBM machine apply.
Warranty service upgrades
During the warranty period, warranty service upgrades provide an enhanced level of
On-site Service for an additional charge. Service levels are response-time objectives
and are not guaranteed. See the Warranty services section for additional details.
IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone or electronically by
access to an IBM website. Certain machines contain remote support capabilities
for direct problem reporting, remote problem determination, and resolution with
IBM. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that
IBM specifies. Following problem determination, if IBM determines on-site service
is required, scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call, machine
technology and redundancy, and availability of parts.
Maintenance service options
If required, IBM provides repair or exchange service depending on the types of
maintenance service specified for the machine. IBM will attempt to resolve your
problem over the telephone or electronically, via an IBM website. You must follow
the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. Scheduling
of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability.
Service levels are response-time objectives and are not guaranteed. The specified
level of maintenance service may not be available in all worldwide locations.
Additional charges may apply outside IBM's normal service area. Contact your local
IBM representative or your reseller for country- and location-specific information.
The following service selections are available as maintenance options for your
machine type.
