My Philosophy of Game Play

Commonly games are used in the classroom as a reward for students, but they
can also be used as an instructional strategy and be incorporated into everyday class
activities to help students grow intellectually as well as socially. Games, whether they
are educational or just for fun, can benefit students. Many games require you to focus
and make quick decisions and most games even require students to use skills such as
logic, memory, visualization, and problem solving. Even playing fun, non-educational
games, can be beneficial for students because they can help students improve other
mental skills (Amory, Naicker, Vincent, & Adams, 2002). For students with disabilities
and communication difficulties, games can be a good way to help develop social
interaction and growth (Amory, Naicker, Vincent, & Adams, 2002). Students with
limited or no speech can benefit a lot from playing game because games will allow
them to interact and play with peers. Using games in the classroom can be used to
teach students how to collaborate and learn to work together (Amory, Naicker,
Vincent, & Adams, 2002). Playing video games can help students with their
intellectual development as well as social development.
