About Mount Pleasant


Mount Pleasant is located in the geographic center of Michigans Lower Peninsula. A friendly and
dynamic community, Mount Pleasant is dedicated to retaining small town traditions while building a
growing and vibrant local economy. Residents enjoy an abundance of recreational and cultural
activities as well as numerous local festivals and community events. Access to major state highways
makes travel around the region and the state convenient for Mount Pleasant residents.
The Mount Pleasant community offers a diverse population base; multiple housing options; exceptional
educational opportunities for learners at all levels; and, numerous recreational and cultural activities.
Central Michigan Community Hospital provides a wide range of health and wellness services to
residents in the region.
Mount Pleasant is home to Central Michigan University serving more than 19,000 students with
excellent educational opportunities and partnerships with businesses throughout the State of
Michigan. Strong partnerships between Central Michigan University and the Mount Pleasant Public
Schools are currently in place and the opportunity for new and/or expanded partnerships offer creative
opportunities for the district. Residents also enjoy easy access to Alma College and to Mid-Michigan
Community College

About Mount Pleasant Public Schools


Mt. Pleasant Public School district successfully educates approximately 3,500 students. The district
operates 5 elementary schools, one Jr. high school and two high schools, a community education
program, a day treatment education program, and the Mt. Pleasant Area Technical Center serving all
the districts of the RESD.
Key points of pride for this outstanding district include:
The districts diverse students benefit from talented and committed employees at every level
and daily interaction with a diverse student population.
The Mount Pleasant Public School District enjoys a tradition of strong parent, community and
business support as evidenced by numerous school volunteers and partnership programs with
organizations throughout the community, active PTO/PTA and booster organizations and a
history of supporting district bond proposals to improve facilities.
The district maintains strong partnerships with the Saginaw Band of Chippewa Indians and
receives on-going support from the tribe.
The district offers diverse core academic programs; an area-wide technical center; a wide range
of highly successful athletic programs; a widely recognized music program; and numerous
extra-curricular program opportunities for students.
District students at every level benefit from an exemplary fine arts program supported by
district staff and a host of community volunteers.
District voters recently approved a bond issue designed to improve district facilities; improve
safety and security; and, provide for the purchase of additional buses and limited new

construction designed to expand programming options as well as allow for a district-wide


common start time for students.
The district has made many tough decisions in order to maintain a positive fund balance that

Selection Criteria
The Mount Pleasant School District seeks a strong, passionate leader who possesses the following
qualities, characteristics and skills:

Actively engaged and visible leader in the schools and the community residence in
the district upon appointment is strongly desired
Strong team-building skills - capable of engaging the entire school community in a
positive and proactive manner
Effective communication skills (speaking, writing and listening) with excellent
interpersonal, public relations and marketing skills
A visionary leader and innovator with the ability to engage all stakeholders in pursuit
of a clearly defined set of goals for the district
Demonstrated track record of positive involvement and interaction with diverse
populations - treats all people with respect and dignity
Dedication to educational excellence, continuous improvement and the success of all
students
Ability to direct a district-wide strategic planning process
Data driven, research based, decision maker
Successful teaching and recent administrative experience, reflecting a record of

Salary and Contract Information


The Board will offer a comprehensive, multi-year contract. Total salary and benefits will be
commensurate with experience of the successful candidate and requirements of the position.
