Connecting CE 4.2 devices to Windows Mobile Device Centre in Windows 7
Note: This is a kludge that changes the device from a PTX753x to a Generic Microsoft USB Sync device there is no guarantee this workaround
will not have unexpected results. The steps below need to be taken for every new CE 4.2 device that is connected to the Windows 7 PC.
First connect the terminal to the PC using a USB cable and the required dock.

From the Desktop Right click on "Computer" and select Properties

Click "Device Manager" located on the Left side

Locate and expand the Mobile device


Right click select update driver

Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"

Expand "All devices" if needed and scroll down and select "Mobile devices"

Select Microsoft as the Manufacturer and


Select "Microsoft USB Sync" as the Model
Click Next

Click Yes to proceed

The device driver will be installed when done click Close

Note the Device Manager now displays Microsoft USB Sync

You may now launch Windows Mobile Device Center or it will launch when the device is connected.
(Note WMDC 6.1 needs to be installed manually)
