Candidates Statement
I grew up in the small town of McBain, Michigan. The second oldest of four children, I exhibit
many influences of my family. My father operated his own business for many years before taking
a job with the state of Michigan. His example has taught me to strive for what I believe is right
and to work with others so that everyone can reach success. My mother, who works part-time so
that she can spend more time with her children and grandchildren, has taught me about setting
priorities. The influences of both of my parents have given me a strong sense of right and wrong,
as well as the ability to communicate with others and be a caring and compassionate human
being that strives to help my fellow human beings.
Being a teacher is a goal that I hope will someday soon become a reality. This goal was
influenced by some of my own experiences as well as by many people in the educational system,
both at the high school and college level. My view of how I want to teach is to be the person who
can motivate and encourage people to strive to obtain their goals, no matter how big they may
seem.
I believe that as an educator I can make a difference in the future of our children. If children are
not given an opportunity to obtain the best education possible, how are they supposed to thrive
and make this world a better place? We must therefore devote ourselves as teachers to ensuring
educational excellence for the future.
My future plans include getting a job where I can let students experience all that music has to
offer. To be the best teacher I can be, I will continue my education any way necessary so that my
students can obtain the best education possible.
My educational philosophy can be summarized as follows;
I want to push my students to achieve high academic standards while still having fun
within the classroom. I want my students to grow their musical skills, and grow a love
and appreciation for music.
