Steps taken to reduce the level of pollution Installing floating islands of wetlands that filter and treat polluted

storm water runoff in the city of

Fairfaxs Accotink Creek. Virginia Tech and its project partners will design environmental education
and outreach programs to help Fairfax residents learn about how floating islands reduce water
pollution.

A three year project in Harrisonburg community to reduce polluted storm water runoff. These
runoff-reducing practices will stop 509 pounds of nitrogen, 78 pounds of phosphorus and 19 tons of
sediment each year from flowing off lawns, schoolyards, public lands and commercial properties.

To create a green corridor of innovative storm water management practices in downtown

Richmond, including the capitol building grounds. The Greening Virginias Capitol project will
reduce by 65 percent the amount of polluted storm water runoff that flows from these sites to the
citys Combined Sewer Overflow system.

As a result, The Department of Environmental Quality has worked to promote and coordinate statewide efforts

to reduce or eliminate the use of mercury and mercury-containing products that are persistent in the

environment and is bioaccumulative, and toxic in nature.

us carefully and to reduce the degree of pollution present in indiscriminate quantities in Bangalore
