A three year project in Harrisonburg community to reduce polluted storm water runoff. These
runoff-reducing practices will stop 509 pounds of nitrogen, 78 pounds of phosphorus and 19 tons of
sediment each year from flowing off lawns, schoolyards, public lands and commercial properties.
As a result, The Department of Environmental Quality has worked to promote and coordinate statewide efforts
to reduce or eliminate the use of mercury and mercury-containing products that are persistent in the

Conclusion
These innovative methods of controlling the rate of pollution increase in Virginia can be studied by
us carefully and to reduce the degree of pollution present in indiscriminate quantities in Bangalore
and our Country, India. We must appreciate and recognize these innovative methods and draw
inspiration from these ideas and think of more ways that aim to make the world a better place to
live in.

a lot in reducing the levels of pollution and mitigating the pollution altogether. It also offers us an
insight into the creative ideas being adopted in other parts of the world (Virginia) which can be
implemented in our country also.
