We look after our own.

The text We look after our own by Oodgeroo Noonuccal, published in 1989,
explains about the troubles of an aboriginal daughter and her aging father. The
daughter is forced to put the father in a nursing home but is confronted with the
issue of racism. It positions contemporary readers to understand the opinions
and thoughts of people in the time period in which it was written. In the text the
author attempts to make the audience acknowledge the mistreatment of
indigenous Australians in society. As racism is an ongoing issue the text will be
relevant in providing the opinion of racism from the victim's perspective. It also
shows us how the Aboriginals were treated in that time period, which allows
readers to make a comparison to the todays society.
