This site is dedicated to the fine art of gulching.

The term describes


an attempt to recall the name of something, and giving the general
sense of it, but still missing the mark. It can be due to laziness, or a
genuine attempt to remember the name, but is only ever in the
same ballpark, never on target.
It was coined after my father, the late Ger McGlynn, was trying to
remember the name of a ride in Disneyland. Its real name was the
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a western-themed rollercoaster. He
called it the Gulch Express, in a somewhat lame effort to remember
its actual name. Ever since, similar linguistic vaguaries have been
called gulches.
