With the advancement of technologies nowadays, people are getting lazier
than what they used to be before modernization of technologies. The evidence of this problem is clearly shown by student today, especially universities students. Generally, students who are lazy will also delay their work. One of the studies recorded that approximately 50% of students admit that they tends to delay or procrastinate more on academic works (Ferrari, Johnson & McCown, 1995). Procrastination is an endemic problem (Lee, 2005, p5) that needed to be solved among students. Steels (2007) define procrastination as to voluntarily delay an intended course of action (as cited in Grunschel, Patrzek & Fries, 2013, p841). According to Lively (1999), procrastination is the failure to take action to make something happen. You know what to do, but you dont do it. (p7). Overall, procrastination is a voluntarily behavioural issue which can affect students life negatively. Academic procrastination occurs due to several reasons. Based on of the studies, it has been found that the more industrialized a society, the more salient the construct of procrastination becomes (Ferrari, Johnson &McCown, 1995, p4). Based on the study, we can conclude that people will procrastinate more as the industry progress further. Furthermore, Grunschel, Patrzek & Fries (2013) categorized these reasons into two which is internal reasons and external reasons. Examples of internal reasons are mental and physical states, cognitive behaviour, personal believe, personality and much more. While, external reasons are individual working condition, lecturers characteristics and institutional conditions. Next, Lee (2005) states that procrastination is due to lack of motivation. He further states that high procrastinators were more likely to be concerned with what others may have been thinking of them, how they were presenting themselves, and about their performance during the learning process (Lee, 2005, p13). Due to procrastination students have to encounter lots of consequences. Lee (2005) found out that procrastination can lead to low level of performance in their overall college works. Grunschel et al. (2013) added that procrastination can cause problems relating to sleep, failure in time management and much more. Thus, lots of studies have been made to find solutions to apprehend this problem. This paper will discuss the solution to resolve procrastination among students from various perspective.
