Thank you for your letter of 30 June, enclosing further correspondence and a
position paper from your constituent, Councillor Jonathan Bishop of 8 Heol-yParc, Efaillsaf, Pontypridd CF38 1AN, about the future of Royal Mail.
The points made by Cllr Bishop in his latest email and his position paper have
been noted but, as you are aware, the Postal Service Bill recently received
Parliamentary approval and Royal Assent and so we have now started the
process of progressively implementing its provisions
The provisions of the Act (PS,t. 2011 j and wider Government policy for the
future of Royal Mail and postal services more :;enerallY are following a
different direction of travel from that oroposeri by Cllr Bishop. However, I
would point out that the Act provides the option for Post Office Ltd, the
company which manages the post office network, to convert to a mutual
structure operating for the public benefit as the alternative to remaining
publicly owned.
