LYRIC POETRY IN MOTION: FROM POETICS OF ORAL LYRIC

Summar y
Poetics of motion in oral lyric poet ry understands functionality of the images of
motion at compositional, stylistic and semantic level. These images could form compo
sition principle or one segment in song struct ure. The most frequent fig ure of speech are:
repetition, parallelism, cont rast, gradation and metaphor. The notions of movement for
mand direct the space in the songs. They also inf luence on the meanings of boundary,
closeness/distance, ones own/alien, passable/impassable. Motion as a human activity is
marked by changing of perspectives, by memories, and emotions and according to that
it transforms space of oral lyric songs. Since these notions have its temporal dimension
they form chronotopes.

S u m m a r y
The accidental discoveries (1977) is the book of Memoirs and Essays that reveals
the genesis of esthetic and Cult ural-historical ideas of Milan Kaanin, Serbian literary
crit ic and Histor ia ns of Literat ure and Art. The paper was first performed problem
analysis of Genre hybridity of Kaanins texts and presented arg uments for their unam
big uous Art ranges. Then we tried to clarify certain gravity of authentic Aesthetics and
Historiosophical thoughts and views on Art and life. On the examples in this late Kaa
nins book we pointed out the sources and the results of the his creative consciousness
and Aesthetic int uition, as well as the fundamental determinants of an individual intel
lect ual and creative System in Serbian Literat ure and Cult ure in the twentieth cent ury:
Intermediality in thoughts about Artistic phenomena in synchrony and diach rony; con
fig urat ion of spir it ual sensibility and aff irmat ion of Art istic exper ience as primal
Aesthetic principles; at lase, insight into the Aesthetic signif icance of Cult ural and Hi
storical self-consciousness.

THE PAR ADOXICAL HERO IN THE THEATRE OF PAR ADOX
(Pirandellian hero before Pirandello in the forgotten play by orovi Our Theatre)

S u m m a r y
Svetozar orovis one-act play from the year before the Great war, Our Theatre,
takes a very special place in his rich and diverse dramatic opus. This place also belongs to
the aforementioned orovis forgotten play in the context of our entire dramatic heritage
because of its innovative dramatic process, complex hero concept and attempt to show
the heros fate by using paradox. The aim of this paper is to draw a parallel between the

analysis of this play as a literary-historical occurrence avant la lettre and the poetics of
the Theat re of the Absurd, dominant from the mid-twentieth cent ury and even more so
with the dramatic works of the Italian author, Luigi Pirandello, who first broke the al
ready-existing forms of the theat re. Special attention should be given to the question of
the concept ual pair of reality-delusion, as well as to the problems of chronotopes which
arise from it. Furthermore, not only the question of the spectators perception during one
such displacement of reality should be addressed, but also the question of identity exchange
through identif ication with the assumed role.

THE NATIONAL GROUND AND MODERNITY IN LITERARY THOUGHT
AND PRACTICES OF THE YOUNG BOSNIANS

Summar y
In his article The National Ground and Modernity (1908) Dimitrije Martinovi
opens the subject that he would touch upon in his later texts, as well as the other Young
Bosnia authors, in their attempts to overrule the externally imposed dichotomy between
national ground and modern literary strands. The main part of the Mitrinovis program
texts is characterized by emphasizing subjectivity and authorial freedom, while the author
does not insist on his own individuality from the collective surroundings, with self-explanatory open, wide and likeable sense of duty and solidarity with his unliberated people.
Pero Slijepevi also addresses the shift in the understanding of national component in
literature: from the collective and external to deeply personal experiential lenses, leading
to unconscious and unaware depths. Jovan Skerlis views, verbatim or paraphrased,
echo in the literary texts of the Young Bosnians, since it was Skerli who delivered the
realistic grounds for the national cultural uprising, based on the synthesis of national
strongholds and the perception of contemporary trends. In the Crazy Poem by Milo
Vidakovi the depth of the collective voice and knowledge emerges, announcing the poetics
of the new expressionistic epoch, rebellious and subversive. The grand finale of the poetic
creation, obscure but ecstatic, summons the images of marginal, terrifying experiences
of the ancestors, announcing the bloody storms between people. Following Skerlic,
through their program texts the literary figures of the Young Bosnia expressed their
awareness that individual talents need the wide and deep traditional horizon of the homeland.
With this, they have laid foundations to postwar, avant-garde self-discoveries in the
national ground for Milo Crnjanski, Rastko Petrovi, Momilo Nastasijevi, Milan
Dedinac and others.

S u m m a r y
The starting point for consider ing how the Byzantine her itage values in Serbian
avant-garde literat ure is Vinaver essay Skerli and Boji. In the avant-garde spir it,
Vinaver ret urn to Byzantium considered necessary for reasons that could be called sub
versive. Ret urn to Byzantium and the Middle Ages mean the break with tradition and
epic cult ures. Image of Byzantium was the most present in the avant-garde travel writing.
Stanislav Krakow and Stanislav Vinaver written about it while staying in Venice, Milo
Crnjanski was found byzantine art in the cities of Tuscany and Rastko Pet rovic admires
her in Constantinople. Byzantium was an important symbol for the determination of the
creative, political and historical identity in the years after the First World War.

Z u s a m m e n f a s s u n g
Der vorliegende Text zerlegt die hermeneutische Drftigkeit der phnomenologischen Grundstze, die Heidegger auf die romantische Poesie Hlderlins anwandte. Der
wichtigste innere Widerspruch geht bei dem interpretativen Versuch Heideggers daraus
hervor, dass er die hlderlinsche selbstoffenbarende dichterische Wah rheit durch seine
eigene, heideggersche Ideologie vermittelte. Die Grundkluft zwischen der die metaphysischen
Ideale sinnlich vergegenwrtigenden, poetischen Symbolik Hlderlins und der das Dasein

als Absolutes hervorhebenden Philosophie Heideggers verwandelt sich in den unberbrckbaren Abgrund, weil Heidegger keinen guten Willen zeigte, trotz des weltanschaulichen
Unterschieds zwischen dem philosophischen Deuter und dem von ihm gedeuteten Dichter
die Ganzheit des fremden poetischen Geistes aufzunehmen. Sie stellt eine eigentmliche
und untrennbare Bedeut ungseinheit von dichterischen Formen und ihren Inhalten immer
von Neuem dar, die auf das Durchdrungensein der Zeitlichkeit von metaphysischer Ewig
keit hieratisch hinweist. Diese sak ral synthetische Hinweisung bleibt fr heideggersche
Phnomenologie unerreichbar.

IN PYNCHONS NOVEL GRAVITYS RAI NBOW

S u m m a r y
The complexity of relations between reality and fantasy in Thomas Pynchons novel
Gravitys Rainbow is based on inability to clearly disting uish between them and the po
tentials of reality and fantasy to transform one into another at any time. Literary theorist
Brian McHale has def ined two basic principles that govern the transformation of reality
and fantasy. The first principle is ret roactive deconcretization, which reveals as fantasy
what has previously been presented as reality. The second principle of transformation is
ret roactive concretization, or transformation into reality of what has originally been
presented as not real. The ability of one event to go through several concretizations and
deconcretization greatly cont ributes to the complexity of relations between reality and
fantasy. The two processes constantly erase, shift and create new boundar ies between
reality and fiction, thus requiring constant re-examination of reality and fictionality of
the described events and episodes, and the novels entire reality framework. Along with
the novels cyclical struct ure, ret roactive concretization and deconcretization challenge
and question conventional conception of time and space and open up the possibility that
the entire novel is a text ual representation of cinematographic projection of reality, with
numerous inserted fantasies and alternate realities.

Summar y
The subject of this work presents the analysis of the nat ure and functions in The
Prague Cemetery by Umberto Eco, according to the following aspects: 1. metatext uality,
narrative perspective and temporal dimension of the novel, 2. the general relations bet
ween historical data and fiction 3. interference of different historical circumstances; 4.
various relations between intertext ual aspects, history and fiction; 5. The fig ure of the
devil. On the one hand, Eco creates new postmodern reality, and on the other establishes
a critical attit ude of demystif ication in uncover ing the process of creating a histor ical
illusion. In the construction and deconstruction of history and fiction, The Prague Cemetery
implies understanding of the nat ure of deception, but also searches for the truth about
the issues of individual and historical identities.

Dans not re travail, nous analysons la cinquime pice du dramat urge franais con
temporain ric-Emmanuel Schmitt Le Libertin (1997), dont le personnage cent ral est le
clbre philosophe franais du XVIIIe sicle Denis Diderot. En faisant une analyse dtaille
de cette pice, nous nous proposons dexaminer quelle est la manire dont le personnage
de Diderot est transform dans la pice de Schmitt. Le sujet principal de la pice de
Schmitt est le travail de Diderot sur Encyclopdie, surtout sur un article concernant la
morale. Une attention particulire est consacre lanalysedes problmes de la libert,
de la mor ale et de lamou r conjugal, qui se trouvent au cent re des crits littrai res et
philosophiques diderotiens.

S u m m a r y
The paper attempts to shed light on Pavlovis literary histor ical understanding,
interpretation insights and evaluation of Nastasijevis creative work, especially his po
et ry and drama ura Brankovi. It implies a certain poetic aff inities between Pavlovi
and Nastasijevi, especially in terms of eschatological thought and the thematization of
the Kosovo myth. Also, attention is drawn to some architextual signals in an essay that
reveal the concept ual nucleus of fut ure Pavlovis poet ry, but also to certain omissions
in Pavlovis interpretive approach.

TIHOMIR OSTOJI IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NATIONAL
AND ENLIGHTMENT PROGRAM OF MATICA SRPSKA

Summar y
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Tihomir Ostojis birth, his work has
been illuminated as strongly dedicated to the national and enlightment program, which
he had introduced to Matica srpskas programs, starting with 1892, when he became an
associate in the library Books for the people of Matica srpska, up to 1921 when he died.
His work as the Secretary of Matica srpska, the editor of Letopis and Kalendar Matice
srpske, and as one of the editors of edition Books for the people have been particularly
emphasized. Also, his work on recording folk tales and poems has been discussed. This
part of his opus was a part of the national revival program, which was also propagated
by other carriers of the revival ideas (so called pokretai1) at the break between 19th
and 20th centuries.

Summar y
Tihomir Ostoji is one of the most significant representatives of the preani6
Serbian intellectual elite at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. He was
born in 1865 in a village in Banat, today known as Ostojievo, named after him. He died
in 1921 in Vienna. He spent the longest part of his life in Novi Sad. He played an important role in the history of the significant and cultural institutions: Serbian Orthodox Great
Grammar School and Matica srpska in Novi Sad, Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. He
was an associate member of the Serbian Royal Academy in Belgrade. He significantly
contributed to the development of musicology and the history of Serbian literature. Many
aspects of his life and work have been studied only in fragments and deserve to be researched much more thoroughly.

Su m m a r y
This paper pays tribute to Roland Barthes and his critical, theoretical and metho
dological legacy. Hundred years after his birth we can fully recognize his major role as
one of the most inf luential intellect ual fig ures of the 20th cent ury and his deep and farreaching impact n literary theory and social sciences. Barthes introduced us to genuine
critical thinking and the decoding of not only literary, but of all kinds of phenomena,
relyingupon Saussurean notion of the ling uistic sign. He also liberated the text and for
mulated his famous idea of the death of the author. Among many other milestone achi
evements, he emphasized the crucial role of the reader in creating the meaning of the
text and clearly insisted on its plurality.
