THE IMPACT OF DEFORESTED FORREST IN INDONEISA TO A

GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE

In Indonesia, large areas are deforested every year, releasing massive amounts
of climate change causing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which affect our
way of life here at home. Indonesia is already a significant emitter of greenhouse
gases because of deforestation and land-use change, estimated at 2 million
hectares per year. One of the biggest deforestation is Borneo Forrest in Kalimantan.
Deforestation and forest degradation in Borneo up to 20 per cent of global made
CO2 emissions.
Based on WWF, the deforestation and forest degradation indicate that if the island
of Borneo continues at its current rate of deforestation, it will be severely affected
by climate change through the increased risk of floods and forest fires, human
health impacts, changes in farming yields and damage to infrastructure.
Because of economies and growing global demand for tropical hardwood, palm oil
and minerals have increase deforestation, which threatens wildlife and has made
Indonesia one of the worlds top emitters of carbon pollution. For many local
communities, deforestation means no more timber for industries, no more
medicinal plants and fewer foods can produce. It can also means dirty drinking
water, because the rivers become polluted.
