Dr. Justin Thurman
English 1101 (ENGL)
LaGrange College
Dear Dr. Thurman,
It has been my first year and semester as your student. I would like to first thank you. When I
mean to say thank you, I mean THANK YOU. I have been taught and shown in your perspective
of the outs and ins of English. I have a long road ahead worth of learning and trial and error
with my papers but with your passion for your field of study, I have learned more than I could
ever acquire in all my four years of high school education. I may very well be the quietest
student that has ever set foot on this campus but when I leave from here three and a half years
from now, I know it will be worth all the knowledge you poured into my head about How Not
to Write Bad (Ben Yagoda) and A Writers Reference.
In my final portfolio of ENGL 1101, I have chosen my best piece of this semesters course,
Future Decisions. I believe at the start of this year it was overall my master. The revision or
worst paper is the Cooking With New Skills assignment. I conducted my interview but
thought as it wasnt given enough time and care to perfect what it was meant to provide to the
audience. I am very excited and trusting and confident in my self-assessment of my first paper,
as well as my peer review. I gave what I thought of my fellow students papers and myself for
when I was done with my paper.
I am excited for next years semester in English 1102 with you as my teacher. I hope in the four
months as your student, I have shown an acceptable amount of hard work and research as I gave
my best effort. You have taught me to become a better person overall in research and what to do
with my writing. I look forward to future writings in your class.
Sincerely,

Casey Evans
