Phytosome as a Novel Biomedicine: A Microencapsulated Drug

Delivery System
Summary
Phytosome is a novel developing technique employed to phytopharmaceutical that comprises phytoconstituents of herbal extract
enveloped and bounded by lipid. They preserve the important element
of herbal extract from damage by digestive secretion and because of
which they reveal greater absorption, which allows better
bioavailability and enhanced pharmacological and pharmacokinetic
framework than conventional herbal extract. Novel vesicular drug
delivery systems intend to release the drug at a rate influenced by the
demand of the body during the period of treatment and direct the
active substance to the site of action. Phytosomes have been
therapeutically utilized for hepatoprotective and liver diseases.
Research show that one can develop Phytosomal drug delivery systems
for several drug classifications like anticancer, cardiovascular, and antiinflammatory activities, etc.
Learnings/Conclusions
From the literature, I've come to know that since early times the
therapeutic uses of phyto-medicines have been very popular for health
preservation. Further research showed that phytosome technology has
become a breakthrough design for marked improvement of
bioavailability, significantly higher clinical advantage, guaranteed
distribution to the tissues, without jeopardizing nutrient safety. The
appropriateness of this system raised interest for herbal medicines in
managing various diseases emerging today and has paved the way for
newer researches and hopefully better administration for other
medicinal substances.
