Why has cyber bullying grown so much?

Internet is the bigger and the most popular way of communicating now a day. It is a useful
tool that can be used to research about different topics at the same time, talk to people
from the other side of the world, but some users take advantage from it. Cyber bullying is
the negative use of technology to harm the victim of bullying.
According to U.S. Legal Definitions, Cyber-bullying could be limited to posting rumors or

gossips about a person in the internet bringing about hatred in others minds; or it may go
to the extent of personally identifying victims and publishing materials severely
defaming and humiliating them.
The cyber bullying commonly starts in school, dressed up by regular bullying. Then it
evolves until the aggressor starts posting rumors or gossips and eventually, the victim
cant hide from the aggression. Sometimes it gets so bad, the victim think about ending
with his or her life.

With the increase in use of these technologies, cyber bullying has become increasingly
common, especially among teenagers. Awareness has also risen, due in part to high
profile cases like the Suicide of Tyler Clementi. - Wikipedia.

The cases of this problem have been increasing in the past couple of years. It is most
common in teenagers who dont really get the damage in which they are being the reason.
Unlike physical bullying, electronic bullies can remain anonymous using different email
accounts, pseudonyms in chat rooms, instant messaging programs, cell-phone text
messaging, and other Internet sites to change their full identity; this perhaps frees them
from normative and social constraints on their behavior.
But what they dont know is that, recently, many governments have stated rules and laws
against this horrible behavior. Theyre no specific laws that are applied to bullying. But
when it comes on race, rational origin, color, sex, religion, etc. it is the school obligation to
address it.
For example: in New York there is now anti bullying laws and policies behind the terms
Harassment, bullying, intimidation, taunting, and discrimination. Along with this come
more than 43 states in the US with this type of protection.
It might seem difficult, though, preventing to fall or be a victim of this type of harassment,
but together parents and kids can prevent it.
Here are some tips parents can follow to prevent their kids to be victims of cyber bullying:

Know the sites your kids visit and their online activities. Ask where theyre going,
what theyre doing, and who theyre doing it with.

Tell your kids that as a responsible parent you may review their online
communications if you think there is reason for concern. Installing parental

control filtering software or monitoring programs are one option for monitoring
your childs online behavior, but do not rely solely on these tools.

Have a sense of what they do online and in texts. Learn about the sites they like. Try
out the devices they use.

Ask for their passwords, but tell them youll only use them in case of emergency.

Ask to friend or follow your kids on social media sites or ask another trusted
adult to do so.

Encourage your kids to tell you immediately if they, or someone they know, are
being cyber bullied. Explain that you will not take away their computers or cell
phones if they confide in you about a problem they are having.
