First Week Planning


This scope and sequence plan outlines the first week of daily instructional activities for a
secondary (junior or senior-level) social sciences course. TEKs 113.45 and 113.46.

Day 1
Introduction to course, instructor, and class
members.
Day 2
Instructor-led discussion: What are the
social sciences (psychology, sociology, human
development). Discuss commonalities among
the fields.
Student work: web-based activities exploring
sub-disciplines and career opportunities.
Day 3
Lecture/notetaking: Basic methods of social
sciences principles/concepts, reasoning, and
research methods.
Day 4
Lecture: Discuss APA and ASA ethical
standards, collection and use of data standards.
Day 5
Student work: Create a graphic organizer
(foldable), Summative assessment:
vocabulary quiz on introductory social sciences
terminology.
