Competency characteristics
A competency is a reasonably profound and long-term component of a
persons personality and can forecast behaviour in a wide range of situations
and job tasks. It also causes or forecasts behaviour and performance of an
individual. The competency forecasts which is evaluated on a specific criterion or
standard tells whether a person has performed well or poorly. Competency
characteristics are content knowledge, behaviour skills, cognitive processing,
personality traits, values, motives, and occasionally other perceptual or
sensorimotor capabilities (reaction time for combat pilots, visual acuity for
designers), which validly predict performance outcome criteria.
