1. Trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi, the first Indian to win two back -to- back World Cup gold

1. India on Monday launched its first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, joining the
elite club of nations with the capability of designing and building a warship of this size
and capability. Defence Minister A K Antony's wife Elizabeth launched the 37,500-tonne
carrier at Kochi shipyard almost four-and-a-half years after its keel was laid by the
minister.
2. International Youth Day(12 Aug) is being observed today across the globe. The theme
this year is -- "Youth Migration : Moving Development Forward".
3. Chidambaram announces quasi-sovereign bonds to defend rupee.

4. Govt introduces Bill in Lok Sabha to amend SEBI laws. The Securities Laws
(Amendment) Bill, 2013, was introduced by Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain
Meena. The Bill is to amend the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992, the
Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956 and the Depositories Act, 1996.
5. A bill to amend the Right to Information Act 2005, RTI Amendment 2013 was
introduced in Lok Sabha by the Minister of State for Personnel Mr. V Narayanasamy.
6. India on Monday successfully test-fired nuclear weapons capable surface-to-surface
ballistic missile, Prithvi-II for its full range of 350 km from the Integrated Test Range (ITR)
at Chandipur, Odisha.
7. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, tasked with protecting and promoting public
health, has warned two websites selling bidis and Indian cigarettes of action for sale of
adulterated tobacco products. In a July 26 letter to these websites, the FDA said their

1. India will launch its first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant on Monday, making an
entry into a select club of countries capable of designing and building a carrier of this
size and capability.
2. The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) liquidity tightening measures may have an adverse
impact on the country's already sluggish economic growth, which could fall below 5 per
cent, experts warned.
3. Against the backdrop of recent incursions by Chinese troops into India, the two

countries are working to conclude a new border defence agreement with an aim of
signingit when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh travels to Beijing possibly in October. The
Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA) proposes prevention of face-offs
between the troops of the two countries along the over 4,000 km disputed Line of Actual
Control (LAC).
4. India signed a Protocol amending the India Morocco Double Taxation Avoidance
Convention (DTAC). The Protocol was signed by Dr Sudha Sharma, Chairperson, Central
Board of Direct Taxes on behalf of Government of India and Mr. Larbi Reffouh,
Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to India on behalf of Government of the Kingdom
of Morocco.
5. In a major step towards completing its nuclear triad, India activated the atomic reactor
on-board the indigenous nuclear submarine INS Arihant paving the way for its operational
deployment by the Navy.
6. Vinod Prakash Sharma an eminent scientist on 9 August 2013 won the Gujar Mal Modi
Award for Science and Technology 2013. He received the award for his contribution in the
field of basic and applied research of Malaria and Vector Biology.

1. Indias rising shuttler P V Sindhu on Saturday settled for a bronze medal at the World
Championships after suffering a straight-game defeat against world number three
Ratchanok Inthanon in the semifinals of the prestigious event.

4. Indias foreign exchange reserves fell by almost $3 billion to $277.17 billion for the

(RBI) data released on Friday showed. The previous occassion when the foreign exchange

reserves had reached this level was in the week ended June 25, 2010.
5. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) today said the country's largest blast furnace has
become operational at its Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). "Durga, the largest blast furnace of
the country, has become operational," the company said. "Built at an approximate
expenditure of Rs 1,600 crore, the furnace has a useful volume of 4,060 cubic metres."
