MICROWAVE OVEN STRUCTURE

Comparing to ordinary ovens microwave ovens does not heat up food with electric heaters but
with microwaves (electromagnetic field) so therefore structure is different.
Microwave oven structure:

1 - CAVITY
2 -MAGNETRON
3 - MAGNETRON'S COOLING SYSTEM
4 - MAGNETRON'S HIGH VOLTAGE POWER SUPPLY
5 -ROTATING TRAY
6 - TRAY MOTOR
7 - WAVEGUIDE
8 - WAVEGUIDE COVER

Component description
Chapter describes components from above scheme
1 - CAVITY (housing of cooking compartment): It is entirely made out of metal (painted or
stainless steel) to prevent microwaves leakage. Necessary holes (for cooling, light and
heat transmission, tray rotation) has to be rounded with diameter less than 3cm (to
prevent leakage). For increasing security they are smaller than 1,5cm..
There are additional bigger hole in cavity to transfer microwaves from magnetron to the
food inside cavity.

2 - MAGNETRON: Microwave source inside oven. This is special designed

antenna, which generates radio waves with specific frequency. It needs high
voltage power supply. Wave emision has to be directed. (towards the food inside
cavity) It is mounted on outside wall of microwave cavity. It broadtcast waves into

cavity through largest hole in the side wall.

3 - MAGNETRON'S COOLING SYSTEM: Durring microwave transmission

magnetron becomes very hot therefore it requires cooling system. It is made of
motor with axial fan and mounetd on back wall of main housing near the cooling
ribs on magnetron.

4 - MAGNETRON'S HIGH VOLTAGE POWER SUPPLY: For normal operation

magnetron needs high voltage, which is generated from high voltage transformer
and voltage doubler (HV capacitor and HV diode) or inverter. They are mounted
on the bottom of the main housing below the magnetron.

5 - ROTATING TRAY: It is used to support food durring heating process.

Because direct microwaves comes to food from only one direction, it is
necessary to rotate it and we achieve even distribution of heating effect on whole
food surface. Ussualy tray is made from glass, which don't interfere with
microwaves. Additional components are rotating tray holder and coupler, which
transfer rotating from motor to the tray.

6 - TRAY MOTOR: It is used to drive rotating plate. It is mounted on outside of bottom of

the cavity. Axle of motor is extended with coupler through the hole in cavity bottom.

7 - WAVEGUIDE: Room with metal walls between magnetron's antenna and

cavity. It transmits microwave power from magnetron to the cavity without any
loss.

8 - WAVEGUIDE COVER: It covers waveguade and prevents splashing grease inside

waveguade. Material don't react with microwaves - they go through and need to be
temperature proof (mica).

Additional components
MICROWAVE DOOR:
It prevents microwave and high temperature leaking in surroundings. Mayor components:

1 - OUTER GLASS prevents dirt entry inside of door. It allows view inside of oven
3 - INNER METAL FRAME reflects microwaves. It allows view inside oven through net of tiny
holes.
5 - PROTECTIVE FOIL/FILM on inside wall of metal door frame protects from grease splashing
inside of door. Do not remove this foil from oven.
6 - INSIDE PROTECTIVE FRAME is installed on inside edges of metal door frame. When door is
closed, it is pressed to the cavity edges to protect from microwaves leaking. Protective frame is
correctly installed, when closed door holds sheet of paper between door and cavity edges.

8 - DOOR LOCKER - plastic hook holds closed door tightly to the cavity
