The document discusses two stages of development: school age and young adulthood.
For school age (6 to 12 years), the basic conflict is industry versus inferiority, and the important event is school. During this stage, children develop a sense of industry by learning new skills, but feelings of inadequacy can lead to problems with competence and self-esteem.
For young adulthood (19 to 40 years), the basic conflict is intimacy versus isolation, and the important event is relationships. People at this stage seek companionship and intimacy, but failure to find satisfying relationships can result in isolation. Significant relationships are with marital partners and friends.

tend to seek companionship and love. Some also begin to settle down and start families, although seems to have been pushed back farther in recent years.
