Adelaide Shopping

Rundle Mall is where most of the major shops can be found. It is Adelaide's largest
shopping precinct, with over 500 retail outlets situated among its 13 arcades. You
can not only shop here, but you can also eat and watch the live performances. For all
of those shopping bargains try one of Adelaide's markets.
If you are looking for souvenirs then you are sure to find something special
in Adelaide. You can buy clothes from Australia's top designers, many books and
antiques, aboriginal crafts or one of Adelaide's special opals. Adelaide is the centre of
the world's opal industry, offering beautifully coloured opals often called "fire in the
stone". The mines can be found in various desert towns including Coober Pedy,
Andamooka and Mintabie.
South Australia is also well known for its wine and produces most of Australia's wine.
Adelaide is surrounded by an extremely large wine producing region, so you can buy
wine readily from any wine bar or bottle shop in and around the city, or alternatively
visit the wine cellars yourself. You'll come across the first wine cellars within only a
15-30 minute drive from the city, where many offer tours and tasting.
Another speciality of the region is Cooper's Ale. It began in 1862 by Thomas Cooper
and produces a range of products including Cooper's Sparkling Ale, Cooper's Original
Pale Ale and Cooper's Best Extra Stout.

Adelaide Eating Out

Adelaide is the centre of South Australia's booming wine industry. And the closest
vineyard is a cork toss from the city centre.
The climate is perfect for alfresco dining much of the year, and Adelaide's
international influences range from the Mediterranean and Asia.
All this makes for a relaxed and high-quality food and wine culture where fine dining,
cafe culture and great pubs and bars mix together. You'll find entire streets devoted
to dining.
Any visit to South Australia isn't complete without a visit to Haigh's Chocolates, the
only chocolatier in Australia that still imports and roasts their own beans.
Near to Rundle Mall are Hindley Street and Rundle Street. A number of restaurants,
bars and clubs can be found on Hindley Street. However,Rundle Street is a great
place to eat out and is Adelaide's cosmopolitan and
avant-garde centre.
Whatever food you are looking for Adelaide has it,
serving food from all over the world. The main eating
areas include the central market, Chinatown, Gouger
Street, Hindley Street (the West End), Hutt
Street,Melbourne Street, O'Connell Street, and Rundle
Street (the East End)
