JOB DESCRIPTION

FRONT OF HOUSE COORDINATOR


S1 Artspace is seeking a Front of House Coordinator for a temporary contract over 3 months
during our summer exhibition. The post-holder will be committed to consistently providing an
efficient, friendly, welcoming and informative service by offering assistance, support and
guidance when required, and ensuring that all visitors experience excellent standards of
service at all times. The coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that front-of-house
operations run smoothly and will manage the day-to-day running of the reception area and
gallery. They will be able to provide information on the exhibition and events programme as
well as the building and its history. The coordinator will assist the gallery manager in
maintaining the security and health and safety aspects of the summer exhibition The
Brutalist Playground (please see attached press release for further information about the
exhibition).
Previous experience in a public-facing role and a keen interest in the visual artists are
essential. A good level of IT skills, and knowledge and understanding of First Aid and Risk
Management is desirable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide knowledgeable, efficient, friendly and professional customer service to all


visitors to the building

Develop good general knowledge and understanding of the exhibition and its
contents in order to offer an informative and rewarding experience for visitors

Be able to provide information on the building and its history as well as the
organisation and its programme

To assist visitors who may need assistance ensuring that their visits are positive and
enjoyable

Provide assistance and advice for all visitor enquiries

Establish methods to gain visitor feedback and profiles, collate responses for
feedback and evaluative purposes

Maintain the professional appearance of the reception and gallery areas

Ensure the smooth running of all front-of-house operations

Monitor the flow of visitors and manage safe capacity requirements as and when
required

Ensure the safety of visitors and artworks

Help set up and steward events as necessary

Respond confidently in assisting the public during an emergency situation

Coordinate and supervise gallery invigilators and volunteers ensuring cover as


required for all events and activities

Support the gallery invigilator team, ensuring staff are able to carry out their areas of
responsibility effectively

Ensure volunteers are supported and effectively rotaed to provide cover across the
gallery

Promote the exhibition, events and organisation through social media

Carry out daily checks on all spaces, ensuring they are safe, secure, clean, tidy and
fully functional and that high standards of presentation are being met and adhered to
at all times

Perform any other appropriate duties that may reasonably be requested and as
required by the gallery manager or artistic director. This may include providing cover
for the gallery manager when necessary

Ability to work flexibly as required including occasional evening and weekend working
hours

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL

Experience of a public-facing role

An interest in contemporary art and architecture

Excellent communication skills and a friendly attitude

Ability to work as part of a team

Flexible attitude to work and willingness to work occasional evening events and
weekends

Time Management and excellent punctuality

Ability to make effective use of IT, including email, word and excel

Ability to work on own initiative

Desire to maintain high standards at all times

Ability to work under pressure

The ability to get on well with people and have a professional attitude

DESIRABLE

Experience of working in an art gallery or a relevant sector

Experience of working with young children, families and school groups

First Aid qualification

A good knowledge of contemporary art and architecture

Experience of retrieving and monitoring visitor feedback
