thirsty.HetranslatedtotheMaterialPlane,forthereheknewwasdrinkin
abundance.TheGloriousToadGodstumbledandhoppedintothefirst
innhecameupon,wherehedrankallthatwasoffered,allhecouldbuy,
andevenallthathecouldsmellhiddeninthecellarforthenoseofthe
GloriousToadGodismostsensitive.Hedrankuntilhefelloverinsensible
inthenowemptycellar.
WhentheToadGodawoke(much,muchlater),hehoppedupstairs.The
innkeepertoldthegodtogohome.
IwouldburpedtheToadGod,butIcannotrememberwhichplaneeis
mineown.
Youcantstayheresaidtheinnkeeper.
IamaToadGodmutteredtheToadGod,ToadGodsstaywherethey
wantandwavedhishand.
Theinngroaned,andtwisted,andthelandoutsidechanged.TheToad
Godwentbacktobedinthebasementandfromthatdaytothis,theInn
hastravelledtheplanes,visitingeachplaneinturn.Oneday,perhaps,it
willfindthehomeplaneoftheToadGod,orhewillwakeupandstagger
home.
Untilthen,itwanders.

Description
TheWanderingInnoftheGloriousToadGodvariesinappearance
dependingonwhereitis.Eachtimeitmaterialisesonanewplane,its
frontdooralignstoanexistingdoorframe,alleywayorothersuitable
portal.InonecityontheMaterialPlane,theinndoormightappearinan
archwayinthesewers,oraclosetinapalace,oratopabelltower.Inthe
PlaneofFire,itmightappearinacavemouthinanEarthPocket,orina
ringofflames.IntheChasm,itmightmaterialiseinPeredrimorinoneof
theWindfisherCities.Afewminutesbeforeitmaterialises,thesignofthe
GloriousToadappearsabovewhateverportalwillbealignedwiththe
door.

Inside,theGloriousToadisalargeandramblinginn,expandedandrenovatedbynumerousowners,longterm
residents,orrampagingdemons.

TheWanderingInnoftheGloriousToadTraits
Subjectivedirectionalgravity:Thestrengthofgravityonaplanewiththistraitisthesameasonthe
MaterialPlane,buteachindividualchoosesthedirectionofgravityspull.Suchaplanehasnogravityfor
unattendedobjectsandnonsentientcreatures.Thissortofenvironmentcanbeverydisorientingtothe
newcomer,butiscommononweightlessplanes.

Charactersonaplanewithsubjectivedirectionalgravitycanmovenormallyalongasolidsurfaceby
imaginingdownneartheirfeet.Ifsuspendedinmidair,acharacterfliesbymerelychoosingadown
directionandfallingthatway.Undersuchaprocedure,anindividualfalls150feetinthefirstroundand
300feetineachsucceedinground.Movementisstraightlineonly.Inordertostop,onehastoslowones
movementbychangingthedesignateddowndirection(again,moving150feetinthenewdirectioninthe
firstroundand300feetperroundthereafter).
IttakesaDC13Wisdomchecktosetanewdirectionofgravityasafreeactionthischeckcanbemade
onceperround.AnycharacterwhofailsthisWisdomcheckinsuccessiveroundsreceivesadvantageon
subsequentchecksuntilheorshesucceeds.

GettingthereandBack
TheeasiestwaytogettotheWanderingInnistowalkinthefrontdoor.Thetrick,ofcourse,isfindingthefront
door,whichcanbeanywhereinthemultiverse.TheInnmovesaccordingtoitsownwhim(orthewhimoftheToad
Godsancientspell),butdivinationspellscanpredictroughlywheretheinnwillgonext,andTheInnsschedulefor
thenextfewdaysischalkeduponaboardjustoverthebar.
TheInnisapocketplaneinandofitself,soplaneshiftspellscanbringatravellertotheinniftheycanreachthe
planewheretheinniscurrentlyresident.Justappearingintheinn,however,isfrownedupon,especiallyifthe
travellerbringsunwelcomepursuitwithhim.However,gatingintoareservedroomisperfectlyacceptable.

Features&Locations
TheWanderingInnwasonceanordinaryinn,andmostofthefittingshaveenduredorbeenreplacedwithsimilar
items.Apewtermugintheinnmighthavebeenswappedfortheskullofafiend,butthroughadrunkenhazeit
mightbepossibletomistakethisforanormalinnuntil,ofcourse,youseethecustomers.

GroundFloorLocations
FrontDoor
TheshapeofthefrontdooroftheWanderingInnvariesdependingonwhichdoorframeitissetinto,butitis
alwaysaheavyoakendoor(AC15,20hp,BreakDC17).Ontheinsideofthedoorisanornatemetalplatewhen
touched,thisplatereinforcesthedoorwitharcanelockandironwoodwhilesomeoneholdsthedoorshut(AC20,
hp60,BreakDC26+Strengthbonusofcharacterholdingthedoor).Themetalplatecanalsobecommandedto
useclairvoyancetodisplaytheareajustoutsidetheinn,althoughthereisalsoasmallviewingplatethatcanbe
drawnaside.
Ontheoutsideofthedoorisaheavydoorknockerintheshapeofafrogwithjewelledeyes.Usingthe
doorknockertriggersanalarminthebarwithin,butalsocastsdetectevilonthecharacteroutside.Beingevildoes
notbaracharacterfromtheinn,butitmayresultinthetravellerbeingquestionedandwatched.Anyoneviewing
theareajustoutsidetheinnwithdetectportalorarcanesightwillnoticeaquiveringfissuretheexitpointofthe
stabledoor(seebelow).

CommonRoom
Thedominantfeatureofthisroomisthebar,whichwastornfromadarktempleofevilwhereitwasoncea
sacrificialaltar.Thebloodandichorhasmostlybeenscrubbedfromtheoilygreenblackstone,althoughvisitors
arestilladvisednottotrytosipupspilledbeer.Thealtarbaroccasionallymanifestsanauraofinfernalgreen
light,buthasyettosummonuphorrorsorpossessanyofthepatrons.Casksofaleandsomebottlesofwineare
keptbehindthebar,asareapairofmasterworkclubsandamercifulcrossbow+2.Behindthebarhangsaslate,
whichhastheinnsnextthreeplanesofcallandtheestimatedtimesofarrivalanddeparture,aswellasasilver
bell.Thisbelltollsonceanhourbeforetheinnvanishes,andagainfiveminutesbefore.
ThemainfireplaceislargeandlinedwithstonetheWanderingInnwasoriginallylocatedamidthesnowsofthe
north,wherecustomerswouldcomeinfrozenandfrostcovered.Thegratinginthefireismadeofcoldwrought
ironitisalsoasummoningcirclewhichhasbeenusedtobinddemonsandelementals.Thereisasmallsecret

compartmenthalfwayupthechimneybetweenthegroundfloorandthefirstfloor(SearchDC16tofind,butitis
currentlyempty).
Abovethefireplaceareapairofcrossedswordsneitheraremagicalorevenespeciallywellbalanced,butthey
dolooklikebladesofgreatpower.AbovethoseisapaintingofaratherobscuremountainrangeontheMaterial
Plane.Thepaintingisalsononmagical,butthescenedepictedisusedasaguideforteleportingifregularsatthe
innareseparatedorlost.Justtotherightofthefireplaceisacomfortablestoolandalowtable,oftenoccupiedby
abardorotherentertainerperformingintheinn.
Halfadozenroundtablesarescatteredaroundtherushcoveredfloorofthecommonroom.Therearealsotwo
alcovesnearthefireplacewheremoreprivateconversationscantakeplacebothalcovescanbecloakedin
privatesanctumspellsoncommand,bytouchingalittlegargoylefaceonthewall.Heretooaremismatchedstools
andchairsfromascoreofdifferentworldsandcraftsmen.
Therearetwowindowsinthewallnearthedoor,buttheydonotconnecttotheoutsideworldbeyondtheinnis
nothingbutsilverynothingness.Anythingthrownoutthewindowjustfloatsafewfeetaway(soapallofsmoke
hangsovertheinnwhenthefireislit,untilblownawaybytheoccasionalgustofwind).

Tavernbrawls
Ifatavernbrawleverbreaksout,andthevariousobjectsthatpopulatetheInnareusedinthefight,treatobjects
asanappropriateimprovisedweaponandusethefollowingguidelinestodetermineifanobjectbreaks:
Mugsandbottlesbreakiftheyareusedtoinflict2ormoredamageinasingleattack.Stoolsandchairsbreakif
theyreusedtoinflict3ormoredamageinasingleattack.Tablesbreakiftheyreusedtoinflict8ormoredamage
inasingleattack.

Kitchen
Callingitakitchenisperhapsbeinggenerous.Seeingastheinnvisitsnewandexoticworldsonadailyorweekly
basis,mostoftheinnpatronsprefertoeatout,andthekitchenintheGloriousToadgoeslargelyunusedasan
areaforfoodpreparation,anyway.Wizardsandsorcerersareamajorpartoftheinnsclientele,sothekitchenhas
beenpressedintoservicemanytimesasanalchemistslab,workshoporevensurgery.
Itwaslastcleanedbeforethefallofprettymuchanyempireyoucaretoname.

Storeroom
Thestoreroomcontainsverylittletheinnbuysmostsupplieslocally.Atrapdoorintheleadsdowntothecellar.
Caskthegolemwaitsherewhentheinnisclosed.

Stables
TheWanderingInnoncehadamoreconventionaloutsidestables,butonlythemainbodyoftheinnwasaffected
bytheToadGodsspell.Magicprovidedtheanswerthisformerstoreroomisundertheeffectsofasizealtering
spell,makingitbigenoughtoholdthesteedsofanyguests.Indesperation,thestablescanevenbeusedas
emergencyaccommodation.Theroomcanwarpitsspacetoamaximumof100feetx100feetx30feet.A
permanentdimensiondooreffectinonewalltransportstheanimalstoaspotjustoutsidethefrontdoor.Thisisa
majorholeintheinnssecurity,asanyonewhocanpinpointthespotwherethedimensiondoorexitscanuseitto
slipintothebackoftheinn.Therefore,aheavywagonwheelispushedoverthedimensiondoorbyCaskiftheinn
isthreatened.

Office
Thissmallbackroomisprotectedbyaheavy,ironbounddoor(AC16,30hp,BreakDC17)andkeptlocked(Open
Lock,DC20)byMalpon.Insideisasmallandbatteredwritingdeskandabookcase.Malponcanbarelyreador
write,sotheinnsaccountsarekeptbyAriane.Intruth,theWanderingInnisvastlywealthy,asmanyofits
customersarepowerfuladventurerswhothinknothingofthrowingathousandgoldonthetabletopayabill.In
additiontocommonnotesandbillsfromsuppliers,thereisaspecialconcordancewrittenbyapreviousinnkeeper.
Thisbook,inconcertwithaKnowledge(theplanes)check,canbeusedtocalculatewheretheinnwillgonext.

TheDCforthischeckis12+3perplaneinadvance,soDC15forthenextplane,DC18fortheoneafterthat
andsoonwithouttheconcordance,theDCisdoubled.
Thebookcasecontainsseveralitemsandbooksacquiredbypreviousinnkeepersthatweredeemedtoo
dangeroustoleaveondisplayupstairsinthelibrary.Notableitemsincludeahelmofoppositealignmentandafull
setofelementalgems.Theevilordangerousbookshavehadtheirmostdangerouspagesremovedandreplaced
bypagesbearingexplosiverunes.Theexpurgatedpagesarekeptwiththetreasuresoftheinn.
Thesetreasuresarekeptinachestinacunninghidingplace.Thewallsofthisroomarepanelled,asistheceiling
andfloor.Sixofthesepanelsconcealclevercatches(SearchDC20eachmustbefoundindividually).The
panelsarealignedtofaceeachother,andcanberotated.Essentially,thechestismagicallykeptinsideout
whenallsixpanelsareflippedaround,theyputthechestbackintonormalreality.Thechestislocked(OpenLock,
DC20)andmagicallysealedwithanarcanelock.Itcontains5,000gpincashandanother1d6x5,000gpworth
ofgemstones,alongwithanamuletoftheplanesandthepagesfromtheexpurgatedbooks,whichincludespells
likehorridwilting,greaterplanarbindingandwailofthebanshee.

NotableFormerInnkeepersoftheWanderingInn
ThelfricofNorvale.Thefirstinnkeeper,hesoldtheinnafewdaysaftertheToadGodfellasleepinthe
basement.ItissaidofThelfricthathewentouttofindawaybacktohishomevillageandhislostwife.
JerometheWelcoming.InnkeeperafterThelfric,itwasJeromewhoestablishedtheInnasoneofthebestway
toseetheplanes.Hemadethesilverbellthatwarnspatronswhentheinnisabouttodepart.
MabtheRed.Underherstewardship,theWanderingInnwasusedasthemobilebaseforabandofadventurers
whocutaswatheofheroismandswashbucklingskulduggeryacrosstheplanes.
Xchritx.Aninsectoidwarlord,XchritxcapturedtheWanderingInnanduseditasabeachheadforinvasionsof
twentyninecitiesandtowns.Foratime,thesignoftheGloriousToadwasasfearedastheskullandcrossbones
orfacelesshelm.
Sylassine.AdaughterofoneofMabtheRedscompanions,Sylassinewasamongthemostpowerfulsorcerers
evertowalktheplanes.ShereclaimedtheInnfromXchritxandservedasinnkeeperafterwardsforlongerthan
anybeforehersaveJerome.Shealsowrotetheconcordancewhichallowsinnkeeperstopredictwheretheinnis
going.
Ashto.TheonlyinnkeepertobeaworshipperoftheGloriousToadGod,Ashtosreignasinnkeeperwascut
grievouslyshortwhenhedeclaredthatalcoholhadoffendedtheToadGod,andthereforetheinnwouldnolonger
servedrink.

UpperFloor
GuestRooms
Alloftheupperroomsusedbytheguestsandstaffarelargelyidentical,savethattwoservingmaidsareforcedto
sharearoom.Eachroomhasabedorbunkbed,atable,awashbasin,astoragechestandachair.Somerooms
alsohaveawindow,althoughnowitmerelylooksoutontothesilverybubblethatsurroundsthepocketplaneof
theinn.Theinnhastwentyguestrooms,ofwhichsevenhavedoublebunkbeds.Eightofthetwentyroomsare
currentlyoccupied.Whentheinnisovercrowded,guestsareofferedsleepingquartersintheMenagerie,libraryor
commonroom.
Eachroomhasadoorwhichcanbelocked(OpenLock,DC17).Guestsarepermittedtousemorepowerful
protections(suchasarcanelocks,glyphsofwarding,guardianmonsters),butmustputupthedonotdisturbsign
topreventthecleaningstaffgettingblasted.

Menagerie
Themenagerieisinaconvertedloft.Itwasestablishedbyalongtermresidentoftheinn,whowasanavidhunter
andcollectorofstrangecreatures.Themenagerieiskeptasacuriosityandanentertainmentfortheguests.Most
ofthecreatureshereareeitherstuffedorpreservedusingalchemy,althoughthereareseveralthatarepetrified

statues.Theentitieshereincludeastuffedplanardragonhatchling,aravid,anelementalaxiomaticdirewombat,
amedusaandabizarreroundthingcoveredinears.
Unknowntoanyoneintheinn,thedeadmarilithpreservedinmagicalamberinonecorneroftheMenagerieis
actuallyonlyamostlydeadmarilithpreservedinmagicalamber.Thedemonisstuckintheyellowcrystal,butif
theamberwereevercracked,evenslightly,itsevilinfluencecouldoozeout.

Library
ThissmalladjuncttotheMenagerieisfilledwithscrolls,books,carvedstones,tabletsandmemorycrystalsfrom
dozensofplanes.Therearefewmagicalbooksinhere(nothingbutafewtravellingspellbookscontaining
commonoremergencyspells),buttherearelotsoftravelogues,discoursesonreligionandphilosophy,histories
andthelike.Thelibraryalsohasachestcontainingseveralgamesofskillandchancecollectedovertheyears.

TheBrokenRoom
BeforetheinnbecametheWanderingInn,theonlyproblemwiththeBrokenRoomwasthattheroofleaked.Now,
theroomisexposedtotheunthinkabletransdimensionalenergiesoftheSpacebetweenSpaceswhentheinn
movesfromoneplanetoanother.Anyoneintheroomseestheworldswheelatterrifyingspeedthroughtheholes
intheroof.Thegeometriesofthebrokenroomhavebecometwistedandwrong.Thebedhasbumpsand
angleswherenonormalbedshouldhavesuchthings,thereareunfathomabledepthsofdark,stagnantwaterin
thewashbasin,andthewardrobelurkswithterribleintent.Mostterriblyofall,thereisnosuchwardrobeinanyof
theotherrooms.Noinnkeeperhaseveradmittedbuyingsuchawardrobe,anditistoobigtofitupthestairs.
AnyoneintheBrokenRoomwhentheinnmovesmustmakeaWisdomsaveandaConstitutionsave,bothatDC
17.IftheWisdomsaveisfailed,thenthecharactersmindisaffectedbytheleakingdivineenergyroll1d6.Ona
12,thecharacterisfeebleminded.Ona34,thecharactergoesinsaneinsomefashion,oftenbecoming
obsessedwithsomeminorslightorpassingdesire.Ona56,thecharacterconvertstotheworshipoftheToad
God.IftheConstitutionsavefails,thecharacterissweptawaybytheenergies,andendsuponarandomplane.
TheBrokenRoomalsohasatendencytopickuprandomtravellersandotherplanardebris.Thedooriskept
lockedandalarmed,butthestaffstilllistenatthedooraftereachtransition,tomakesurethatnothinghas
materialisedintheBrokenRoom.

Basement
Brewery
Mostoftheinnssuppliesareboughtlocally,butthesmallbreweryhereproducestheinnsownspecialistbrew
ToadsWoad,analarminglyblueale.Malponhasalsobeenexperimentingwithsomeofthestrangerapparatus
andnotesleftbyformerinnkeepersoneofthemwascertainlytryingtobottlethePhilosophersStoneandserve
itwithtonicwater,andhebelievesheisclosetorecreatingthisgreatwork.

Cellar
ThecellaroftheWanderingInniswhisperedofinthesamebreathastheVaultsofZin,thetreasuryofthecaliph
Oosalamagas,orthewarchestoftheFiendishLegions.Apartiallyinventorymightrun:freshfruit,jarsofwater,
sacksofgrain,barrelsofsmokedandsaltedmeats,breadandpastries,cheese,sundryjunkandunidentified
items,ToadGod.Obviously,thelasttwoitemsareofthemostinteresttounsavourythieves(therathertasty
pastriesacquiredintheAfterworldoftheHalflingsareofinteresttosavourythieves).Theinnfolktendtocollect
curiosanditemsfromtheplanes,andmanyofthesegetdonatedtotheinnorjustleftintherooms.Suchitems
arethrownintothebasementjunkpile.Arcanesightordetectmagicspellsareuselesshere,duetotheproximity
oftheGloriousToadhimself.Almostanythingcouldbefoundinthispile,butduetoaccidentsinthepast,guests
arenotpermittedtorootaroundwithouttheinnkeeperspermission.
BeyondthepileisthesmallTempleoftheToadGodthatcontainstheToadGodhimself.ThedivinemusicofHis
Snoresechothroughoutthechamber,andinHissleepHescratchesHimselfinamannerthatissurelymeaningful
andprophetic.TheToadGodlookslikeatwelvefoottallhairytoadwithaslightlysmugexpression.Whetheritisa

truegod,ormerelyanamazinglypowerfulcreatureisunknown.Onlyonebravepsionevertriedtoplumbthe
mysteriesoftheGloriousToadGod,andshereportedahangoversoterribleitcouldshatterworlds.

TheInnmovesaccordingtoitsownwhim,butoverthecenturies,itspatternshavebeenobservedandmapped.It
tendstostayoneachplaneforthreeorfourdaysonaverage,buthasbeenknowntostayinoneplaceforupto
