Language Development allows children to continue to communicate
in increasingly complex (yet age appropriate) ways! Reading to your
kids and engaging in conversations are some of the best ways to
develop all of the aspects of language (killing 5 birds with 1 or 2
stones)

Infants and Toddlers

Read to your child (youll hear me say this on repeat)


Establish eye contact when speaking
Encourage vocalization!
Let them exlpore
Talk to them as much as possible
Teach sign language or gestures

Pre-K

Practice rhyming!
Encourage word play/manipulation
Point and ask children to identify objects
Remind kids to speak in complete sentences when possible
Listen for appropriate tense usage!
Encourage dramatic play

Kindergarten

Encourage story retelling and reenactments


Listen for use of pronouns, past tense and verb phrases

Watch for correct manipulation of prefixes and suffixes

Primary

Engage in conversation to encourage complex sentence use


Watch for correct usage of past tense
Continue read alouds and have them identify new objects in their surroundings to
increase vocab
Have them group words into similar families
