Opening Hook/Warm Up:


Present a story on the island without trees. This will help
them visualize and determine why resources are
important.

TEK: Science (112.15) 4-A


Students will learn natural world resources.
Objective: Student Friendly: Students will learn of
resources in the natural world. Students will be
capable to identify and list renewable and
nonrenewable resources. Students will discover how
to conserve resources for future generations.

Big Understanding: *What we can do to preserve/conserve natural resources for the future?
*What are renewable and nonrenewable resource and their importance to humans? Students will have the opportunity
to go to the computer lab on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the first week and the Monday and Wednesday the
second week to collect their research data and create a power point (45 minutes each day).

What would happen if humanity does not educate themselves on these topic? How would it affect our
world in a positive or negative manner? Explain your answer.
Instructional Strategies / Student Activities/ Grouping Patterns: Post questions, print handouts.
Present rubric for project and deadline (project due in two weeks). Use illustration for resources. Use internet to
help provide resources and gather more information for group. Discuss and reflect.
Teacher Input/Modeling: IDO: Renewable and nonrenewable resources, how to conserve these resources?
*resource cards, story on resource (text). Students need to have the understanding on resources and the
importance for using them wisely. Journal entry and group discussion (partners).
Guided Practice: WE DO: Group discussing, teacher will provide praise, prompt, and check for understanding
before moving to the next group.
CFU (Checking for understanding): Check for understanding by asking questions on the material taught to
students.
Independent Practice: YOU DO (Individual students): These is a group project which it will be graded as a
group setting not an individual assignment.

Ending, Summary / Reflection: *Journal entry of 3 -5 things students learned about renewable and
nonrenewable resources. Ask students to offer a summary of the lesson and ask students to reflect on lesson
presented and material taught and learned.

Grouping Patterns: Students will work in groups discussing the importance of renewable and nonrenewable
resources and why they have an importance in the future.
Technology: Computers to do further research o nonrenewable and nonrenewable resources and the importance
of why we should conserve resources for future generations.
