Know how to say and spell basic sight words (words that are commonly misspelled) for
their grade.
Learning Outcomes: (What do you expect students to master as a result of your
lesson?)
How to say and spell first grade sight words like:
About, people, because, house, into, though, another, when, know, and many.
Instructional Procedures:
1. Explain that one activity needs to be completed in class every day
2. Explain how the signature works and what needs to be completed in order for
their parents to sign it.
3. Go over the words with them at the beginning of the week
4. Point out chunks and patterns
5. Be available for questions
6. Give them a verbal spelling test on every Friday morning.

Family Connections: (take home activity)


They will have a set of flashcards and every day they will have to recite the words and
spell them when told and their parent can sign it off in their planner.
Assessment Plan: (how do you plan to assess whether or not students mastered the
skill/concept?)
They will take an individual spelling test on the words every Friday.
