N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Emma Randall Date of Activity: 11/8/16

Faculty name: Darlene Lacroix

Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with (be
specific about the purpose and your role):
For my professional activity I participated in an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
certification class through the American Heart Association. Within this class, we learned in depth
cardiac rhythms and the interventions necessary to treat the rhythms. For example, for noncritical patient situations, we first learned to use to attempt non invasive, non pharmacological
interventions such as vagal stimulation. Also, we learned different scenarios of which
epinephrine, dopamine, adenosine, atropine, amiodarone, etc. will be utilized. Depending on the
rhythm, electric interventions such as defibrillation, external synchronized cardioversion, or
pacing may be necessary. I feel that I learned so much during this course and I am much more
confident in my knowledge about rapid response and code scenarios. This certification will come
into great use throughout the rest of my career.
Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?
This course was held at Firehouse CPR & First Aid in Tucson. The program was an ACLS
certification course that lasted for a total of 8 hours, from 8-4.
Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).
This class will be of great value to me in my future nursing career. I learned extensive
information on how to handle quickly deteriorating situations. This class truly gave me more
confidence in my ability to critically think through difficult fast paced scenarios. Now that I have
this knowledge, I know that I will be more confident in myself going into my new grad year of
nursing.

Would you recommend this specific community/professional experience in the future; why or
why not? (Describe)
I would without a doubt, recommend this professional experience in the future. It was a fun, fast
paced class, that is extremely educational. The course provided hands on, simulation experience,
that made the information easy to learn. I think that any nursing student would greatly benefit
from this ACLS certification course.
