What is Computer Information Systems (CIS)?
Computer Information Systems is an academic discipline which bridges the gap
between the business and the computer science eld. CIS is more focused on
practical application of technology to support the enterprise in order to add value
to their oerings.

Welcome to the Department of Information and Decision Sciences in the College


of Business Administration. The Information and Decision Sciences department is
one of the four departments at the College of Business Administration. The
College is an AACSB Accredited School and less than 5% of the schools world-wide
have earned this prestigious designation.
Information and Decision Sciences majors acquire the knowledge and skills that
are necessary to improve their own lives and those of their places of employment.
The Department oers a BBA in Computer Information Systems.

Professional and Student Organizations


The Association of Information Technology Professionals
(AITP) is a national organization with professional and
student chapters all over the United States. The student
chapter is devoted to helping students widen their career
opportunities in the management of information systems.
The Association for Operations Management is a not-for-prot
educational organization respected throughout the world as
an authority on integrated resource management. Student
members attend meetings of the professional chapter where
they network with local managers and students from other
chapters, they participate in plant tours and attend regional
and national meetings sponsored by the professional chapter.
The American Society for Quality (ASQ) is a professional organization
dedicated to the study and promotion of the eld of quality with
chapters in the U.S. and abroad and a student chapter at UTEP.
