Title: Transportation proposal to and from the WREC

Proposed Research topic

We are surveying the overall different methods of transportation used by the many different
people who go to the WREC. Carbon produced by transportation is a huge factor in the overall
amount produced by the WREC. The types of people who use the WREC each day heavily vary

between faculty, sports team, coaches, and general users. Our survey will be conducted at
different times of the day
Purpose: Why are you doing this research
This research will contribute to a larger assignment where we calculate the overall carbon
coming out of the WREC. Depending on the different type of transportation, a lot of carbon can
be produced. With our final results on transportation methods we can use these to encourage
people to use more effective means of getting to and from the WREC.
Background
Depending on where a person lives and who they live with heavily influences the way they
decide to get to the gym. There are many different ways to get to the WREC. Students have
access to a free bus system. Most first year students are able to walk because of living on
campus. WREC users can get there via car transportation, carpooling, bike riding,
walking/running, and other types that we have yet to uncover. The CSU Chico web has a list of
many othe options

Scope
The survey will be taking results from faculty, students, WREC users, and athletic teams. We
will be separating responses by to and from the WREC. We will also include time frames of
each persons source of transportation in order to represent the information fairly and evenly.
Research
There have been no previous surveys conducted toward transportation usage at the Wrec
Center here in Chico. We will be finding the basis of how often people take which types of
transportation and when. The way of transportation depends on the time the people visit, as the
weather and climate of those time frames dictate peoples decisions on how to get there.
Method
The research method for this project will based on the surveys and questionnaires on everyone
at the WREC. The survey will be a non biased question take at different times to accurately
give results.
Timeline
Emily and will create a survey based on how students get to and from the Wrec, and how often
they use that type of transportation
The dates of surveying will be divided evenly upon group members. Each member will have a
specific time frame that they get to work on the conducted survey, and collect data.
We will include answers from members and workers of the Wrec as well, to increase specificity.
Cesar will include the results and based data in a pie chart for demonstration purpose
Ashley will create a reflection assignment to cover all the research and information we gathered.

We will then use this information to further benefit our overall end goal: To discover how much
Carbon the Wrec puts out.
