CRIMINAL JUSTICE ASSOCIATION

The Criminal Justice Association is the official title of the organization in which the name is used on all business and
official documentation. The Criminal Justice Association is a club approved by the principal of Goose Creek Memorial
High School. The Association is unofficially known as Ancient Cuff & Key Society.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission statement for the Criminal Justice Association is public service, leadership development, and education of
youth are the hallmark of the organizations program.

ANCIENT CUFF & KEY SOCIETY
The unofficial Greek name and symbol usage of the Criminal Justice Association is This organization strives to
prepare students for future careers in law enforcement by providing mock interviews, resume writing, dress and
appearance lessons, and mock oral boards. The name of the organization is the meaning behind the Greek symbols .
The A stands for the word Ancient, the stands for the word Cuff because it resembles an ancient handcuff, and
the stands for the word Key because it resembles the teeth of an ancient skeleton key.

ALPHA CHAPTER
The first organization founded of its kind in Goose Creek Consolidated ISD. The next school in GCCISD to found a
chapter of the same organization (i.e. Ross S. Sterling) would be the second chapter and use the second letter in the Greek
alphabet to be known as Beta Chapter. The third school to found a chapter of the same organization (i.e. Robert E. Lee)
would be the third chapter and use the third letter in the Greek alphabet to be known as Gamma Chapter; and so forth
and so on.
ROYAL BLUE, GOLD, & WHITE
The official colors of the organization are royal blue and gold; blue in honor of law enforcement and gold representing an
elite organization.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2012
September 11, 2012 is the founding date of the Criminal Justice Association approved by Principal Michael Wahl.
September 11 is also the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States. Founders week takes place during the time
of this date.
THE YELLOW ROSE
The official flower of Ancient Cuff & Key is the yellow rose. It is also Texass official flower.
THE LEO
Ancient Cuff & Key is associated with the Lion as a mascot because the lion stands for L-loyalty, I-integrity, Oopportunity, N-nobility. Also, the LEO stands for law enforcement officer in the criminal justice community and is related
to the lion in astrology.
NEOPHYTE & PROPHYTE
A neophyte is a beginner while a prophyte is one who is already knowledgeable. New Ancient Cuff & Key members are
known as neophytes while veterans are known as prophytes.
THE CREST
The crest used by the Criminal Justice Association is adopted from the London Metropolitan Police department, the police
force credited with founding the modern structure of all law enforcement that exists today in the United States. Founded
by Sir Robert Peel in 1829, the London Metropolitan Police were called bobbies or peelers.

MOTTO
The motto of the Criminal Justice Association is Intelligence is the torch of wisdom.
AIMS
The aim of the Criminal Justice Association is Striving for achievements in every field of human endeavor.

The sponsor for Alpha Phi Pi Society is Deputy Michael Auzenne. The co-sponsor for the organization is Mr. Richard
Haynes.
