ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
1.

Cut the red and black wires into four

equal lengths. Solder the wires to
the motors and the microswitches as
shown.

2.

Attach the Faraduino board to the base

plate using the two 12mm long M3
screws, the small spacers and the M3
locknuts. The spacers fit between the
Faraduino and the base plate.

3.

Fix the two microswitches to the

underside of the base plate using the
four 12mm long M2.5 screws and nuts.

4.

Attach the two gearboxes to the base

plate in the positions shown using
double sided sticky pads.

5.

Push the 25mm long M4 screw through

hole in the base plate from the top side
and secure it with a flat nut.

6.

Slide the large spacer over the screw

then twist a second nut onto the screw
and tighten it.

7.

Fit the castor wheel onto the end

of the screw and secure it with the
M4 locknut. Do not overtighten the
locknut - the castor wheel must be free
to swivel.

8.

Press the connection shield into the

Faraduino board.
Screw the ends of the wires from one
motor into terminal block at 1A and 1B.
Screw the ends of the wires from the
other motor into the terminal block at
2A and 2B.
Screw the ends of the wires from the
microswitches into the connection
shield at digital 0.

9.

Carefully press the two large wheels

onto the gearbox shafts. Hold each
gearbox as the wheel is pressed onto it.

10.

Insert four new AA alkaline batteries

into the battery box and fix it to the
base plate with a sticky pad. Press
the battery snap onto the battery box
terminals.

The robot is now ready for use.

PROGRAMMING THE ROBOT

An example Flowino program to control the robot is shown below.
(Please note: Flowino flowchart programming software is available as a free download from the
Faraduino page at www.mindsetsonline.co.uk)

The program starts by turning both motors forward. (If a motor turns in reverse when it should be
turning forwards swap the connections at the terminal block).
The orange decision box checks whether either microswitch is pressed. If not, the motors continue
turning forwards. When a switch is pressed both motors are reversed for half a second, then one
motor turns forward, causing the robot to turn. A third of a second later the second motor turns
forward and the robot continues moving in a straight line.
