Time:C-Period;9:12am-9:59am
School: Agawam High School
Lesson #: 3/4 (recorded)
Facilities: Weight Room
Class Size: 15-22
Grade: 9-12
Unit/Theme:Physioball & Stretch Bands Fitness Circuit
Generic Level: Control/ Utilization
Equipment: Task Sheets, 15 Stretch bands, 10 physioballs, Speaker
Focus of Lesson: Identify different types of exercises that students can use throughout
their life using physioballs and stretching bands.
Student Performance Objectives (SPO): (National #
Task/Activity #
)

; MA CF #

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

(P) Demonstrates the appropriate techniques that are required to complete the
exercises by following the task sheet at 70% of the stations during activity 1. (National #
S13.H7.L1 ; MACF # 2.20; Activity # 1)
(C) Identify the difference between isometric, concentric, and eccentric by scoring a 3/4
on a multiple choice assessment during the closure.(National # S3.H9.L1 ; MACF #
2.21; Closure)
(A) Exhibits respect for others by following rules, directions, and maintains personal
space while staying engaged without being talked to 70%

of the entire lesson (National

# S4.H2.L1 ; MACF # 2.26; Entire Lesson)
Check each objective is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally
appropriate?
Teacher Performance Objectives During the lesson the teacher will:
. Provide at least 3 pinpoints throughout lesson to showcase students/ groups who are
1
successful at the given activities.
2. Desist all off task students during the lesson to keep everyone engaged and on task
in all the activities by keeping them active the whole lesson by directing their attention to
the activity. Also, utilize silence when needed.

Special Considerations What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the
students in this class?
1. Some students may have autism spectrum disorders in the class so keeping an eye
on those students while keeping steady communication with the paraprofessionals (if
they do help out with the A.S.D. students) to know their limitations but, also be able to
challenge them with extensions.
2. Due to us being in the weight room, there is other equipment such as, weights and
cardio equipment. So, I need to make sure students stay away from the equipment and
do not touch weights. This can be addressed in safety.

SEQUENCE OF LESSON
Locker Rooms: Ss will change and directly
into gym for attendance.
Attendance: Ss will get into their attendance
spots and T will take attendance.

6-9

Warm-Up:
2:30 minute jog
10 3-count jumping jacks
10 push-ups
10 crunches

9-12

Purpose/ Informing:
Focus of lesson: Identify different types of
exercises that students can use throughout
their life using physioballs and stretching
bands.
Signals: Start= play music, Stop=stop music
(whistle is not appropriate for area)
Safety: Keep your own personal space, do
exercises at your own pace, STAY AWAY
FROM ALL EQUIPMENT THAT IS NOT

ORGANIZATION

USED IN THE LESSON.

Isometric: an exercise where you do not
move a muscle, you use your muscles
tensing to build strength. Muscle fibers are
turned on but, the opposing forces allow for
no movement. (ex. Forearm plank)
(greatist.com)
Concentric: an exercise that shortens your
muscles. (ex. Bicep curls)
(Livestrong)
Eccentric: an exercise that lengthens your
muscles. (ex. Lowering the barbell down from
a bicep curl)
12-12.5

Transition:
Students will transition to their station with a
partner

12.5-13.
5

Demo:
Each pair at a station will have a minute to
look over their task sheet at the given station.
Each pair will give a brief demo at the station
they are at.

13.5-32.

Activity 1: Fitness Circuit

This circuit will consist of stations using
physioballs and stretching bands. At each
station there will be a task sheet to show how
to do the exercise, as well as all the
individual extensions up and down and will
tell if it is isometric, concentric or eccentric
and discuss the muscles. Each station will go
for 1 minute each with students given 15
seconds between each station to look at the
next task sheet. There will be 8 stations, the
objective (based off time constraints) will be
to go through the circuit twice. The following
will be the stations: (in no specific order)
Physioball Push Ups
Physioball Plank
Band Bicep Curls
Ball Ab Rollout

Resistance Band Bent Over Row

Physioball Split Squat
Resistance Band Lateral Raise
Resistance Band Monkey

Example of Extension Up: (physioball push

up) place the physioball at ankles to
challenge yourself with balance.
Example of Extension Down: (physioball
push up) place the physioball right above
your knees on the thigh to improve your
balance.
Pinpoint
32.5-33

Transition:
In groups, students will transition to the
middle of the floor for a mini closure.

33-34

Mini Closure:
What are some of the exercises were
isometric workouts?
What are the differences between
isometric, concentric, and eccentric?
Ask a student what a static stretch is,
ask to demo one and explain the next
activity

34-34.5

Transition:
Students will transition to in front of a station
for a static stretch.

34.5-38.
5

Activity 2: Static Stretch

Students will use the back of the task sheet
to tell them what static stretch they will lead
the class in. The stretches will be held for 20
seconds in order to properly stretch the
muscles. This will be the cool down activity.
Pinpoint
Extension Up: Students can extend how far

they reach and pull on a stretch (i.e touch

ground if they can easily touch toes)
Extension down: Students can stretch and
then come up a little bit.
38.5-39
39-41

Transition: Turn circle into a semicircle.

Closure:
What exercises did you feel the most?
What is the difference between
eccentric and concentric
Hand out assessment:
Assessment will cover the
cognitive objective.
Locker room: Students go to LR
