ABSTRACT
The aims of the study were to determine the effect of PKM supplementation with
different feed energy sources in crossbreed Ongole cattle diet on value of digestibility and
fermentability in vitro. This study was held on September 26th until November 15th 2014 in
Laboratory of Animal Feed Technology, Faculty of Animal Science, Gadjah Mada
University, Yogyakarta and Laboratory Animal Husbandry Department of Animal Feed and
Nutrition Science of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University,
Surakarta. This study materials consists of crossbreed Ongole cattle with fistula,
fermented rice straw, concentrate, rice brand, tapioca waste, and PKM supplement which
contain of molasses, urea, oil, palm oil meal, vitamin, and mineral. The dietary treatments
were P0 = 100% fermented rice straw; P1 = 50% fermented rice straw + 49% concentrate
+ 1% urea; P2 = 49% fermented rice straw + 30% concentrate + 21% PKM supplement;
P3 = 49% fermented rice straw + 30% rice brand + 21% PKM supplement; and P4 =
49% fermented rice straw + 30% tapioca waste + 21% PKM supplement. Variables
observed in the research were the dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, pH
of the rumen liquid, Volatille Fatty Acid (VFA) production, and Ammonia (NH 3) production.
The experimental design used was completely randomized design with five treatments and
each treatment was repeated three times. The average results of this study for each

of fermented rice combined with different feed energy sources and PKM supplementation
had increase the dry matter digestitibility, organic matter digestibility, VFA production of
the diet, and decrease the pH of the rumen liquid and NH 3 production.The conclusion of
this study is PKM supplementation with tapioca waste in crossbreed Ongole cattle diet has
the best digestibility and fermentability.
