Duval County Supervisors of Elections Office Prepares for Extra Voting Days
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2016) --The deadline for registering to vote has been
extended for Florida residents as some were not able to register to vote due to evacuating for
Hurricane Matthew.
The new deadline will ensure all voters have the opportunity to register, said Greg Clark,
director of outreach at the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office.
Clark said all counties in Florida are now accepting applications from new voters until 5 p.m. on
Oct. 18. Forms must be accepted if they are postmarked by that date, even if they arrive days later.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott had ordered millions of residents to evacuate their homes before the
storm. However, Scott also rejected called to extend the registration deadline after Matthew made
landfall.
No voter is ever turned away, Clark continued.
Florida Statutes require voters to present a valid photo ID with signature at the polls. The state
allows 12 forms of identification, including a drivers license, debit card and credit card.
According to the Supervisor of Elections Office, 17 early voting sites opened in Duval County
beginning Monday, Oct. 24, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The last day to early vote is on Sunday Nov. 6.
