Dear Eli,
1 speak for the Registrar’s Office team when I say that it was a pleasure to work with you during
the summer 2016. You fulfilled the hour commitment we agreed to for your internship at USC
with fervor and punctuality. We were sad to see you go, but we understand that you must
During your two-month internship, you helped our counselors get ready to counsel 400 students
who are at-risk of academic probation due to low grade point averages (GPA). One major
contribution you made was the data analysis project you conducted to explain the low GPAs of
the 400 at-risk students. Your findings showed that students fell into different categories: they
had a very low GPA in the first semester at USC, had a single disastrous academic semester after
the first semester, were consistent low-performers, or were performing progressively worse.
‘You also had the opportunities to conduet an email outreach campaign to the 97 students who
you identified as getting progressively worse and to meet with some of them individually to
understand and document the specific reasons for their underperformance
I see a tremendous amount of potential in you in the field of higher education. As I reflect back
on your performance last summer, itis clear that you have students’ best interests at heart, that
you believe in inctusion and collaboration, that you respect the opinions of others and use those
opinions to develop better solutions, that you hold yourself accountable to high professional
standards, and that you are committed to life-long learning. To that last point, I would suggest
that you hone your data analytics skills to inform decision-making and evaluate performance.
Wishing you the best,
