Mathematical Resources

Mathematics Skill / Concept that can be developed with it.

found in the classroom:

circular solids

Counting and calculating for solving a math questions for kids such as
addition and subtraction operations.
Comparing more than/ less than/ equal

Abacus (place value)

Counting, calculating including more/less than, addition, subtraction

Comparing between numbers in each column
Use it for addition and subtraction processes.
Use it to teach how to write a big numbers like 3478.
Teach name of each column (ones, tens etc)

(place value blocks, units,

Place value cubes it could teach the students the concept of numbers and

for ones, tens, hundreds)

each place value digit such as ones, tens, hundreds, thousandsetc.

This tool is the most one is used in math classes, because it clarifies
different operations it can be used for addition concept, subtraction,
multiplication, division and also for comparing numbers.
The educator interested to write a special lesson plan for activities that
include this tool, because it has unlimited range of ideas to implement it
in math lessons for basics instillation for young students.

Place value cubes tool is very useful as the teacher is motivated when she
used it. Moreover, she divided the classroom into groups and provided
each one with this material depend on her objectives.
For instance, the teacher in grade four used this material in multiplication
lesson and she made groups of three students to all of them be
contributed. And then she gave them firstly an example on the board after
that she distribute a worksheet that has multiplication problem and the she
gave them the materials to represent the problem and find the products.

Another example for grade 3, the teacher used this tool for addition with
carrying, so she wrote on the board 253 + 512 = ? Then she asked 3
students to present the first number by using the place value cubes then
ask another 3 students to come and present the second number. After that
she started adding ones with ones and ask students who has the ones
cubes to come and join together and then she completed for the rest until
they get the sum. As you can see here how did it go:

As well the teacher prefers to use it in the half time of her lessons in
several ways once in group, individually or for whole class. Because she
believes that this tool is really effective and it is helpful to deliver the
concept in right way, just because the students touch, see, apply, try on it.
Thus, they have perfect opportunities to analyze, evaluate, and explore
then comprehend the concept of math.
