CHAPTER 2

LOG CORRELATION PROBLEMS

Each of the exercises in this chapter is designed to improve correlation skills. While
working each problem, use all the correlation techniques that can be applied to the problem.
Remember that log correlation is both a science and an art, and there may be more than one
answer to any particular correlation problem. Each solution contained in the solution
manual presents the most reasonable answer to each problem.

PROBLEM NO. 1.

TASKS:
Correlate Wells No. 4 and 6 with the type log Well No. 3 using all recognizable
correlation markers, and identify the four main sands on the two logs. Identify the
structurally equivalent top of the major sand in Well No. 6 at a depth of 5,900 feet,
in Wells No. 3 and 4.
DATA:
1. The section from three electric logs from three different wells (Wells No.
3, 4, and 6 ).
2. Well No. 3 can be considered a correlation type log.
