Professional Growth Plan - Mr.

Bryan Castaneda
1st Year Goals
I am excited to start as a first year teacher Sierra Linda High School. Along with my excitement
and idealistic personality come feasible goals. In my first year of teaching I want to focus on the
development of all aspects of my teaching. Learning the curriculum, differentiating my
instruction and improving my content-area knowledge along with professional knowledge. I will
have my students engage in a learners community incorporating the Five C standards. I will
collaborate with fellow teachers to keep ideas and creativity fresh. I also would like to seek out a
coaching position in Tennis, Soccer, or Baseball. I think that coaching will help create
welcoming relationships with my students. I want my students to know that I care about them
and I will make this evident to them through my school involvement. In my first year the only
club I think I can manage is a Spanish Club where students can practice their social Spanish and
communicate in spontaneous speech. Another tool I plan to incorporate is authentic resources
and music to increase interest and involvement.
Long-Term Goals - 5 Year Plan
My long-term goals are more proof to my commitment to education. I would like to pursue my
Masters in Spanish to further my understanding of my content area. I hope to instill the values I
gained from learning at Sierra Linda High to my students, affirming to them that I care about
their education and well-being. During my five year plan I hope to attend professional
development workshops. I plan on furthering my content-knowledge by getting National College
Board Certification. After a couple years experience I aspire to become the head coach of a
Varsity team establishing my position of longevity and interest in school affairs. I will be a rolemodel for my students in teaching, coaching and community involvement.
Professional Learning Organizations
I will attend the semesterly workshops offered by the Arizona Chapter of the American
Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). I will participate in the Arizona
Language Association (AZLA) fall and Spring conferences hosted by the SILC department at
Arizona State University. I plan to pursue my National College Board accreditation as well.
