Task 2

Classroom Manipulatives
Identify models and manipulatives that are available to use in a mathematics
classroom that you visit.
Did you see them begin used?
If so, what models and manipulatives were used?
The situation that were in that I taught grade five and there are few tools that they use it. I went to
visit my peer classroom in grade 2. There were many manipulatives in the class, I attend a lesson
with my peers MST. She used the manipulatives usually in warm up and the last minutes in core
stage. The lesson that I attend was about addition, so she used some cubes and abacus.

Ask your MST about how she organizes her class when she uses manipulatives.

Does she write her lesson differently?


Does she use more or less time for the activities?
How does she prepare the materials before the lesson?
How does she give directions or model the use of manipulatives?

My peers MST organize the class usually in groups which she think that this is the best organization
for using manipulatives. When she use some tools in class, she wrote the same lesson plans with
various activities. During using manipulatives she set a timer at least (10 Minutes) depending to the
activity. And she think that while using some tools in the activities the students take less time either if
she did not use any tool. Before the lesson, she prepare and set the martials for each group which will
be easy for her during the lesson. Before she start any activity, she models how they work in front of
them which will be easy for them to work.
