International Education Week - Thanksgiving Dinner

Alumni Event Center

Multicultural Student Center
I had the opportunity to attend the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by the
Multicultural Student Center (MSC). This event was held on Tuesday, November 14th,
2016, at 6:00 pm. The event was held in the Alumni Event Center.
Once you entered the venue, there were tables set around the room. Each individual
table had unique beautiful centerpieces that were made by hand by the MSC Student
Ambassadors. Two students who are MSC Ambassadors hosted the program. The
event started with a brief introduction about who and what the MSC. Special guests and
individuals that were in the room were acknowledged.
I learned about the many sub-cultures that we have on North Carolina A&T State
Universitys campus. There are many groups such as P.R.O.U.D (an LGBTQ support
group), the Latino Student Scholars, African Student Organization, Muslim Student
Organization, and many others.
There were several performances that took place. A young man played guitar and sang
a couple of songs that he had written himself. Students from the African Student
Organization dance team (African Aggies Coalition) performed an awesome dance, and
a young lady representing couture productions read a powerful excerpt from a Maya
Angelou book, and she also recited a poem that left everyone emotional.
For the Thanksgiving dinner, it was very traditional. There was Macaroni and Cheese,
Green beans, Yams, and Turkey. There was also pumpkin pie to top it off! It was a very
nice dinner, we go to sit around the table and mingle with other students, and this event
gave me the opportunity to learn about the different people that are with me on campus
and the different cultures that are present.
Overall it was a very nice experience. I got to enjoy a thanksgiving dinner, and learn
about the many sub-cultural groups that exist on campus. It is important for students to
be aware of these different cultures, because its a major factor in creating a well
rounded and knowledgeable individuals, it also helps bridge gaps, and promote overall
awareness.
