UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

The multi-application lesson is part of a unit covering the question words who,
what, when, where, how, and why in order to understand key details of a text as stated
in CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.1.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:

Given a book of choice and a computer, TLW successfully create a graphic organizer using the question
words.
Given a computer, TLW successfully post their graphic organizer to their Weebly page.
Given a computer and their Weebly page, TLW write two or three sentences demonstrating a clear
understanding of their book with a score of three out four on the rubric.

The goal of this lesson is for students to demonstrate a clear understanding of the
question words who, what, where, when, why, and how in order to know key details in a text.
Students provide visual representations and write reflections to demonstrate understanding of
their book of choice.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.1 Ask and answer questions as who, what, where, when, why, and
how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
3. Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use
information.
b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information
from a variety of sources and media

MATERIALS:
1. Students book of choice
2. Computer
3. Internet Access to:

their own Weebly page. A sample of the product is available here:

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of the question words who,
what, where, when, why, and how in order to understand key details of the text.
Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
This lesson is a continuation of CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.1.
We will refer to the summary created here as we continue to explore different texts.
We will also use our outlines for a unit on creative writing.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the
objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in
this course and are not part of this particular lesson.

However, for the next two days, the students will be using pictures and a graphic
organizer to make the book and the question words easier to understand.
Procedures:
1. Prior to the computer (15 minutes)
