MARINERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH CATCHER JESUS SUCRE ON 2017 CONTRACT

Mariners now have 10 players signed to 2017 contracts.
NATIONAL HARBOR, MD Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry
Dipoto announced today at the 2016 Major League Baseball Winter Meetings that the club has agreed to terms with catcher
Jesus Sucre on a 2017 contract. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Sucre, 28, appeared in a total of 9 games with the Mariners in 2016, hitting .480 (12x25) with 4 runs, 2 doubles, 1 home
run and 5 RBI. Six of the 9 games came after Sept. 1, and he hit .647 (11x17) with both doubles, and a home run in those
6 games.
Sucre was on the 60-day disabled list from March 1 to July 6 after having surgery to repair damage in his right ankle on
Jan. 26, 2016 in Seattle. He sustained a fractured right fibula during winter ball in Venezuela on Jan. 17. After being activated
from the disabled list, Sucre hit .125 (1x8) with 2 walks in 3 games with Seattle before being optioned to Tacoma on July
20. He hit .273 (27x99) with 7 runs, 4 doubles, 1 triple and 11 RBI in 29 games with Tacoma.
Prior to being activated from the disabled list, Sucre combined to hit .241 (7x29) with 2 runs, 1 double and 4 RBI in 9 games
on a rehab assignment with AZL Mariners (4 G) and AAA Tacoma (5 G).
In parts of four Major League seasons, he has hit .209 (50x239) with 18 runs, 10 doubles, 2 home runs and 20 RBI in 90
games.
He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent on May 25, 2005 by Atlanta.
