Writing Samples Analysis
After looking at the writing samples from the fifth grader, I can say her writing is full of
content. The student stays on topic when she is writing her sentences. Even her paragraph stays
on topic. The student can sound out words and spells as they hear the word. This student has
phonological awareness in sounds that they hear and can spell. Her writing is easy to read if I
sound out how the word actually sounds.
This student needs support in orthography. The student is able to sound out but has errors
in her spelling. Some recommendation I have for this student is to begin a phonics for reading
lessons so she gets her vowel sounds down. In her writing she uses vowels that sounds alike for
example the e in mene (many), git (get), animol (animal), kes (keys). The phonics for reading
will help the student start to begin sounding out the words. Also, the teacher can begin the
Fernald Approach with this student so she remembers how to write certain words. For example,
words like good. The word good is a word that by 5th grade the student hears it many times. A
one-on-one instruction
