Decide whether two quantities are in a proportional relationship

Q1 - shows me that a moderate amount of time needs to be devoted to defining a proportional relationship. I
will cover the definition of a proportion first and foremost, by using examples and non-examples. This is the
foundation for understanding
Q2 - shows that the students seem to have a great understanding of ratios in word problems when it is clearly
given. I will not plan on spending much time on clearly given word problems. Students will know how to pull
the information out of the word problem and rewrite it as a ratio.
Q3 - shows that students will need some practice on reading and plotting graphs of proportional relationships.
I will teach this thoroughly but lightly because I dont want to scare the kids too much (dialing down the
math) because graphs can be complicated.
Q4 - shows an extremely low success rate. I will teach how to recognize proportional relationships in tables
extensively. Students often see a pattern and assume it must be a proportional relationship. Learning the
definition of a proportion will play a big part in correcting this misunderstanding of table patterns.
Q5 - shows the 2nd lowest success rate. This question is a multistep word problem. We will spend a good
amount of time on how to tackle these step-by-step word problems and the importance of reading the question
carefully, because several students selected only one answer.
