Grade Five Unit Plan

Giving Thanks and Getting Spooky October 2016 8 classes

Generative Topic: There is a lot to discuss and celebrate thematically in October


and looking at Thanksgiving and Halloween will be the main focus of the month.
Through songs that celebrate Thanksgiving and Halloween, we will refresh
ourselves on 2/4, , and 4/4 time signatures. Through this review we will also
expand upon our musical skills developed over the last 4 years. We will explore
pieces through rhythm, our voices, instruments, and recorders to build strong
technique and beautiful arrangements to celebrate the season.
Unit Title: Giving Thanks and Getting Spooky
Big Idea: Build upon previous knowledge, skills, and attitudes to create complex
arrangements.
Essential Questions:
1. How can we build arrangements to compliment songs?
2. How can we use all known instruments together?
3. How is what Im playing on the recorder shown on the staff?
